okay, this is my biggest problem with writing: i have no clue how to end a story.
i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips, because the only story i ever finished ended with suicide, and frankly, i want my latest one to end on a happier note.
i'm also having trouble thinking up plot lines..........
yes, for some reason my mind's been lacking in that department lately; all i can do is think up random scenes and write them down.
i'd appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions in that area, too.
oh, and btw, if this works out, i promise to post my fan fic!

uhh, well, it's kinda a love story with kai and the main character (the girl one ). it starts out with them already together, though.......... i'm currently writing about after they get married, but it's basically just telling about what's happened over the years. i'm thinking of maybe incorporating it with another one of my unfinished story plot lines, but i don't know if i could make it work........... i have to think about it.

Okay, I would usually relate the ending to something the story usually repeated. So if Kai maybe always called Jill a petname, it could end as Kai held Jill tight and he whispered softly, "My little <insert petname here>." Or, if the title was, let's say... Concrete angel, it could end as , She was, after all, her own concrete angel.

End it where it feels natural...as to how to end it...I personally like to read stories in which all the plot lines get tied up nicely at the end. But don't force it

this is difficult for me to answer because when I write a story, I usually already know how it's going to end. Do I know the last chapter verbatim? not by a long shot. typically, I write entire stories about a single scene that I thought of. When I sit down to write a new chapter, it sort of comes out of me as though I'm reading it instead of writing it, and I'm sure the ending will come about in much the same way.
you can't worry too much about the ending of a story because if you have a set model of what the last chapter is going to look like, you'll find yourself shaping your story into that mold and forcing it to fit where it might flow better free. new ideas will come to you as you write, so you can't box in your creativity by worrying about the ending at the beginning. it'll be best if it just flows naturally with the rest of the story.

I don't think you should ask how to end a story, because everyone will know how it ends, so it won't be good. Endings must be original. i'm not asking "what should my ending be?", i'm asking for some techniques or whatever. i'm not good at wrapping things up. they just seem to keep going and going and going.......... and your answers are starting to annoy me, because you're making me feel stupid, so i'd appreciate it if you didn't comment unless you had polite and helpful advice. and zinovia, i usually come up with stories by a scene suddenly popping into my head, and forming a story around it, so i never really think about the ending. except for my very first fan fic that i never finished; i started that one with the ending already made up. maybe i should finish it; the story was pretty good........ but thanks for the advice, people; i really appreciate it. i'll try to use what you guys said and see how it comes out.

I don't usuually have endings in mind either. I do for Dream About Me, but its not very specific. I have no idea how The Reborn will end, not a clue I worry a bit about that...I don't want it to drag on forever. I really have to plan things through for it

Geez, are you always offended by anything like that? What I said was a joke. Actually, I also thought you were being serious #ashamed042jp#

Actually, I also thought you were being serious #ashamed042jp# About the "they married and had kids" comment? No, about the one Moko quoted. I thought you misunderstood her question

What should my ending be And how should I end a story Is pretty much the same thing. No, its not. Coming up with an ending is difficult, lots of writers have that problem. She's asking for advice, not saying "Here's my story, what would a good ending for it". There is a difference.

Only one person told her an actual way she could end the story. (And even that was just a suggestion)
I don't get your problem with the thread, so what if she's asking for advice? That's what this section is for, isn't it? You're the one who isn't helping her any Dan.
No one is to post in this thread unless they can contribute to the topic at hand, which is "How to end a story".

Back on topic (ignore all the off-topicness, that issue is over ): A lot of writers do it the way zinovia does...start with an ending, and try to write the story that leads up to it. I've never been able to do that. I write from the beginning. There is no right or wrong way to do it.

actually, I don't start with an ending at all. I start with a vague image of a scene. probably often only a couple of lines of dialogue or the description of an action. I never know how a story is going to end until I get there.
the point is, if you're not sure how to end your story, just write from plot point to plot point. the ending will come on its own.

How did I miss this thread? *reads* Oooo! Random scenes! *-* Why don't you try stringing them all together to make the most insane, zany, different ending EVAR!? Oooorrrr... You could deviate from the main plot, making a sub-plot that you find interesting and thus ending in a sort-of cliffhanger... Like.... uuhhhh.... FFVII... Ok bad example... err... HP6? No... That's a series... I'mm... Not very helpful am I? ._. Ok, well last bit of thought: Be true to your original plan and span for your story, think of it as a movie and just explain how you see it happening. *-* That's what I do whenever I write... Which has'nt been for a while... ._. ... ... ... I'll shutup now. ._. *leaves with tail between his legs*
