Author's Note~ Hello everybody! I couldn't go too long without writing anuther Fanfic, so here it is! Oh, and, I kept my promise--Popuri is the main character in this story.
Chapter 1
As I stared out into the ocean from the boat I rode on, a million questions flooded my mind. "Am I doing the right thing?" "What if this is all a big mistake?" "What will happen when I do come back home? Will my family and friends accept me?" "Is this really what I want?"
But I'm going too fast. I guess I should start at the beginning.
It was the best day of my entire life. My marraige to Kai. I couldn't have been happier! Kai looked so handsome, and he had told me how gorgeous I looked in my wedding dress. Everyone I cared about was there- Mom and even Rick, Mary (who happens to be a very close friend. I don't know why people dislike her sometimes) and Elli (another close friend. Ann and Karen are friends, but not as close as Mary and Elli are to me). The only thing that could have been better was if Dad could have been there. I was a little mad at him for missing his only daughter's wedding! This was a once-in-a-lifetime thing! I would never get married again, because I would never leave Kai.
I had never been so wrong in my entire life. But that comes later.
Since the marraige was the last day of Summer, Kai and I were leaving the very next day. I was a little sad-- I had never been away from my family for more than two weeks-- but I was overjoyed to be living with Kai. So, on Autumn 1, Kai and I packed up and prepared to leave. We said a teary (well, for me, anyway) goodbye to everyone. Rick tried to tell me it wasn't too late, but I didn't listen. I never thought anything wrong would happen. It wouldn;t. It couldn't. It was not possible at all.
That was the second biggest mistake I ever made.
After goodbyes, Kai and I left on a small ship to the city where he lived. I would only come back in the Summer. As the boat departed, I waved to Mineral Town. I was ready for my new life with Kai.
That was when the trouble started.
My name is Popuri, and this is my story. ***

Chapter 2
The first thing I said when we got to New York City was "Wow". It is the hugest city I had ever seen! I didn't think so many people lived in the entire world! So much that I knew. Kai just laughed and took my hand. "Don't get lost," he warned me. Knowing me, I probably would. So, after about five minutes of walking, this... girl stopped us. She had shoulder-legnth dark red hair and bright green eyes. "Hiya, Kai!" she giggled. I should have been suspicious, but I thought she was only a friend. "Who's your friend?" she asked, noticing me. Her eyes narrowed slightly. "Oh, her?" Kai quickly answered, seemingly thinking of an answer. "She's... uh... my mom's friend's daughter," he responded, flashing the girl a smile. "Oh," she answered, relieved. "I thought--" "Well, it was nice seeing you, Carrie," Kai interrputed, leading me away. "See you later--" she called back, waving. I could tell she was going to say something else, but we were now too far away to hear. "Who was that?" I asked innocently. I decided to let the whole "mother's friend's daughter" thing slip. "Oh, her? She's just a college friend," he explained. I didn't argue. It sounded reasonable to me.
After we had ridden in something Kai called a "taxi", we arrived at a row of towering buildings. "I live in one of these apartments," he explained. As we rode up an odd thing, an "elevator," it suddenly stopped. A girl walked in. She, too, seemed to know Kai. "Kai," she said in a sticky-sweet voice. "I didn't know you had a sister!" "Actually, I'm not his sister. We just came back from--" "--visiting one of her relitives," Kai innterupted me. I looked at him in confusion. "She is a dear friend of mine," he continued. "I had to see her poor old grandmother in the hospital." "How sw-eeeeeeeeet," she cooed. She glanced at the elevator, which beeped. "Oh, here's my floor. Are we still going--" Kai slammed his fist on the "Close door" button and I heard no more. Now I was getting suspicious. "Another college friend?" I asked, putting my hands on my hips. "Uh...no. She is my cousin, actually. We were going out to dinner as sort of a... family... reunion?" He said the last word as a question. "Oh." I answered, half-believing him. "Can I come? I'd love to meet your family." For a second, Kai looked at me with pure annoyance. Then, his normal face was back. "Sorry, babe. There'll be other times. And anyway, they don't know we got married." "We'll surprise them!" I insisted, clutching his arm. "No!" he told me sharply. Nothing more was said untill we got to his apartment. "Here we are!" Kai waved his hand. It was... messy. Very messy. I said nothing, but walked over to the oddly large bed. I turned to him. "Did you buy this recently, for us?" I asked. "Uh..." he cleared his throat. "Yeah. I did, actually." I opened my mouth to answer, but yawned instead. "Poppyseed, you've had a long day," he soothed. "How about I go to my reunion, and you rest." I was about to argue, but decided against it. "Okay," I mumbled. "Bye, Poppy." Kai kissed my forehead lightly, and picked me up. He laid me gently on the bed, and the last sound I heard was the door closing softly. ***

Chapter 3
I awoke later that night to a pounding on the door. Frightened, but curious, I opened the door. Kai was there, along with a brunette girl in a waitress outfit. "Hee-llo," she said in a Southern accent. She looked around, and then at me before saying "I musta made a mistake, cuz' this doesn't look like where Kai lives." "Uhm, actually, he does." The girl looked at me suspiciously. "He lives with another girl? Tsk tsk." "Oh," I laughed. "Kai and I were just married yesterday. The girl looked at me oddly. "I musta heard wrong. I thought y'all said Kai married you yee-sterday." My heart was pounding. "That's what I said. Maybe... maybe you should come inside." "I'm Kayla, by the way," Kayla told me as she stepped inside. "Kayla, can you please tell me what is wrong?" She nodded. "Yeah, I sure will. Well, since you are his wife, you musta known he was goin' to a party tonight--" "You mean family reunion?" I interrupted. "Family reunion? I don't know what he told you, but he went to a wild party with all these pretty girls." I could feel the color draining from my face. Kayla seemed to notice. She patted my knee. "I'll take it a bit slow for ya, miss. I know what you're goin' through." She took a deep breath, and began talking. "Well, I was only a waitress, told I was waitin' on people who were at a party. Anyhoo, there was this handsome guy, Kai," she jerked her head toward him, "who wuz dancin' with all the ladies. They were havin' themselves a great time, kissing and drinking." I sucked in my breath. I was on the brink of tears. Kayla continued. "None of them seemed to care that he made out with every gal there, they just danced and danced and drank. Soon, they were all stone drunk, and it got worse. I was so scared, I hid under the counter, so I didn't see much after that." She gave me a sympethetic look. "Soon, all them girls called a couple taxis and left Kai there. I had to take him home. I had no idea he was married, the way he acted with those girls." She winced. "I'm sorry, miss, I mean missus. I hope this all turns out all right." All I did was choke out a "Thank you," and Kayla left. "Good luck, honey," she whispered, and left. ***

Chapter 4
A few hours later Kai awoke from his drunken sleep. I had tried to sleep as well, but I tossed and turned for hours before deciding I could never sleep. "Hey, babe," he slurred, still drunk. "Hows 'bout you 'n' me go fer a drink?" "You had enough of that!" I screamed. "Woah, no need tah get cranky. Do ya wanna dance wif me?" He started walking towards me. I backed away. "Stay away from me, you jerk!" I screamed at him. Suddenly, he lurched forward and grabbed onto my arms. "Dat's no way to treat a nice guy like meh!" he growled. "Maybay I shoul' teesh yah a lesson!" He twisted my arms untill they burned. "Ow!" I cried, trying to break free. "Shuddup, woman!" Kai kicked my shins repeatedly untill my eyes brimmed with tears. "Get away!" I shouted, more quiet than before. "I said shuddup!" He yelled, letting go of my arms to punch my stomach. I cried out in pain. "Kai, please, get off!" I begged. "Please!" He didn't answer, he just banged my head over and over against the hard, cold walls. "That'll teach ya not tah mess wif Kai!" he yelled at me, and began to slap my face untill it bled. I was covered in blood and was very, very weak. "Stop, Kai..." I murmured, almost unconscience. He did stop then, and I sunk to the floor. He looked down at me triumphantly. "Dat'll teach ya not tah mess wif Kai!" he repeated, and spat on my head. The saliva dripped down, and, to my horror, it was blood-red. I reached my hand up and touched my head. My fingers came back wet and red. I finally began to cry, releasing the tears I had kept in untill now. The salt in them burned the cuts on my face, but I didn't care. I cried and cried. Kai was motionless, and he sunk to the ground as well. A few moments later I heard snoring over my sniffles. Why was my life such a mess? It had seemed perfect less than twelve hours ago. What had happened? I turned over everything in my head. Kai was a polygamist, and had probably married a dozen women before me. He had beaten me almost to unconscienceness. He was drunk from a party. A party on our wedding night! Forgetting the pain, I slammed my fist against the floor. Why hadn't I seen it? I should have been suspicious with the way he told none of those girls I was his wife! They were his girlfriends! Suddenly, I stood up, ignoring the pounding pain I felt, physical and emotional. I had made up my mind. I was leaving Kai and this horrble city. I was going home. ***

Poor, poor Popuri! But I wonder why did Kai marry her and then bring her to the same city as his girlfriends? 'Cause he wasn't intending for her to find out. He would just two-time her, untill he kicked her out with a threat, so nobody would find out.
