Ok, first off:
I'm sorry about all the spelling errors in my last chapter, this time I spell checked it a little more throughly. ^-^;;
And second off, I'm sorry it took so long to write. I've just had other things on my mind and I sorta forgot about this.
But here's the next chapter! Tell me what you think please! ^-^
I hope you guys like it! ^-^ I tried to make it good... But like I've said before, I'm not much of a writer. ._.
Tell me if some things don't make sense, or aren't written right! I'll try and fix 'em! ^-^
(Seeing as after I posted this I editted a few things and I'm affraid I might've screwed something up by accidentally deleting something... maybe I just didn't copy/paste all of the chapter, though I think I did... Ok, so that last one is just paranoia.<_< ._.
... but every time I edit it it seems to get shorter, even though it starts and ends in the same words. >_<)
Chapter 2: The Trip to Nowhere’s land:The night before the trip was a long one, never before had I experienced such horrible visions of possible outcomes for the future. My dreams were filled with horrid wretches, evil gremlins, ghastly specters and all sorts of things that plague the darkest ends of the mind and universe. Never before had I experienced such horrid dreams. But then again, never before had I drunk so much vodka before a mission.
But something was amiss, as I lay there in my haunted state I began to feel a cold aura envelope me. I felt long fingernails graze my skin, dark figures’ cloaks and darkness caressing my very soul. I woke up with a jolt, breathing hard… Too hard. I looked around, the room was unnaturally dark, silent and still. I decided I’d better get up even though it was just three in the morning, I still needed to pack. I got up to go to the kitchen, still groggy and unfortunately plagued by a hangover. Moments later I entered the kitchen. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, so I went to the sink to get a drink of water. But I heard a faint sound was coming from the shadows behind me. I heard a billowing behind me, the billowing of a cloak. Instinct had taught me to attack in the moment and ask questions later. I was going to do my instincts proud. With reactions that had obviously been perfected from rigorous hours of training with the boss I quickly extracted the magnum I kept inside my boxer shorts (just for emergencies) and shot at the creature. I heard a shriek and then a thump. I would have thought I had killed the creature had I not seen it come out of the darkest shadows in the room moments later. I couldn’t completely see its face for it had a black hood covering the top and enveloping most of the rest in shadow, but it seemed to be a woman, with brown… No… Blonde hair… About shoulders length. I could see some coming out of her hood. She smiled at me, not a kind smile though. More like a smile of amusement, and as she did so I could see two sharp fangs protrude from the edges of her mouth. It then raised its fist lazily and opened it. It let out five copper bullets that quickly fell to the floor, and then, her expression changed. A hiss was heard and she herself hissed, then, as if turning into a shadow herself, she blended into the darkness leaving no trace of her except for a whisper of a voice saying: “Stay away.”
After that I knew I’d better begin packing. This probably wouldn’t be a “same old same old” mission. I got out the biggest suitcase I could find and stuffed it with all the guns, steaks, equipment and evil busters I could get my hands on. As for clothes and other things, I packed a few disguises, including a can of black hair dye, some thick rimmed glasses, different sets of clothing (including a fedora and my trust trench coat) and a pseudo death pill. After that I decided that I’d just go back to sleep. After all, I’d need my wits about me the next day.
A few hours later I woke up; I got up and got dressed in those ridiculous clothes the old geezer had given me. They were quite big for me… And they were scratchy… But that didn’t matter, the train left in an hour, and I needed to get to the station. I grabbed my suitcase and ran down the stairs, only to be squashed by my heavy suitcase once I stopped abruptly. It took me a minute to wriggle out from under my suitcase but once I was able too a gazed at the thing that had made me stop so abruptly. Bars… Metal bars. They caged me into the apartment complex where my apartment was. But oddly enough there seemed to be a lever some few feet away, the lever seemed to need to be pulled vertically and was pointing towards me. I looked at the puzzle at hand with a wide eye (for my other was hidden under my trusty company cap), this puzzle seemed too easy. Did whoever put this up REALLY think this would stop me? I decided not to think about it and I pulled out a small handgun and shot at the lever. I got it with my first shot. The lever switched sides and the gate opened but… Something was amiss. Why was this so easy? I decided to shrug it off and I stuffed the gun back into my pocket and ran to my car, my pace slowed down due to my heavy suitcase, so much that it took me ten minutes to get to my car. As I was about to reach it to put in the keys to open it I heard something. It was like a whooshing… Like… A big falling object. I looked up, and there it was, a big black piano falling down, down. I leapt back and crashed into my suitcase just before the piano could hit the car.
I sat there dumbfounded. There could be no way this was happening. How could I have been so stupid? OF COURSE it was easy to get out of my building! The real trap was once I got to the car... My car... I had saved up five years worth of pay for that car, it was so beautiful... and I doubted the insurance company was going to cover falling pianos. Well, no use crying over spilt milk I thought, so I got up and tried to hail a cab. I managed to get one ten minutes later. “To the train station please!” I said hurriedly upon entering the cab. We only had half an hour to get there, and it was a fifteen minute drive. I urged the cab driver to go faster, “FASTER!” I screamed. He seemed quite startled at first but then decided to go by “the customer is always right” he accelerated until he reached the speed limit, a line he dared not cross no matter how much I urged him. Seeing that I was not going to get him to go any faster I decided to just sit back and wait until we got there. Twelve minutes passed and then we stopped. I sat upright and asked the driver why we had stopped. “Well sir, there’s a lot of traffic.”
“WHAT?!” I yelled, how could this be? We were but three minutes away from getting there and there was TRAFFIC! What was the cause? I stuck my head out to see, and there in front of me was a sea of cars. A strained my eyes what was the cause of this jam and after a few moments I found it. A pack of dogs had aligned itself in front of all the vehicles blocking their path. “I can’t believe this” I growled and took one hundred dollars from my pocket and threw it at the cab driver. I grabbed my suitcase and then jumped out of the cab, running as fast as I could do get to the station. The dogs didn’t present much of a struggle to let me through, at first they didn’t seem inclined to allowing my passage, but the sight of “my little friend” fixed that right up.
As I reached the station I went up to the ticket booth and asked the lady for a ticket to… to… Then it occurred to me… I really didn’t know where we were going. I looked around hoping to find some sort of sign… But there was none. I had probably missed the boss. I was so fired. But then I noticed something. Some wild white hair inside a car. I ran towards the car but was soon blocked by a peaky looking man who said: “Youa ticket pleys” I looked at him angrily and shouted: “Listen, I don’t have time, I’ve got to get on that car!”, but the man just shook his head and said: “No ticket no passage”. As he said this though the car began to move, along with the whole train! The train really WAS leaving without me! I decided that I really didn’t have time for this man so I pinched him on the shoulder, which effectively knocked him out. I then ran after the train, as fast as my feet would take me. The train wasn’t going to fast yet, but it was picking up speed, and just as it was nearing the corned I swung my arm in an attempt to grab the back railing, I swung as if my life depended on it, hoping to be able to grab onto it… But I failed; all I managed to grab was loose air. I could feel the terror and disappointment fill my body as I groped in pitiful hope of still grabbing the railing. But of course that was useless. I began to fall over, when I had swung for the railing I had jumped forward, I could feel the earth attracting my body to it, I could feel the dreaded laws of physics and gravity applying their oh so strict rules upon me.
But just then I felt my wrist being crushed, I looked up, and there was my boss, looking furious. With one tug of his arm he brought me and my suitcase hurtling inside the train car behind the railing I had failed so miserably at reaching. I lay there on the ground, still clutching my suitcases handle when I saw an old angry face band over me. It was worse than Satan himself… It was my boss. “You’re late” he growled as he grabbed me by the collar and pulled me into his compartment. “You and I, as of now are related. You are my grandson and I am your grandfather. You are an ex-reporter now aspiring to be a blacksmith and I am your teacher. Your name is Gray, mine is Saibera, get into your personality, live it and love it.” I looked at him inquiringly. “Of all the things we could’ve been, why a blacksmith?” My boss looked at me cunningly. “You shall have to deduce THAT for yourself Gray. By the way, take of the company cap.” I looked at him with a shocked expression on my face. “WHAT?! Take off my UMA cap! Are you mad?!”. “Do you really think it’s a wise choice to wear that to a job like this Gray? Don’t you think it makes you look suspicious?” Saibera growled. I shook my head. “No, I don’t. I actually think YOU look more suspicious, with that vest and that T-shirt, and you being so strong at such an old age. Don’t you think people will wonder why you’re not breaking your back when bending over and stuff at YOUR age.”?
Saibera gave me a look of annoyance that was a clear indicator that it was time for me to shut up.
The rest of the trip was pretty smooth, nothing out of the ordinary apart from a particularly ugly lunch lady who I suspect to be an alien and some odd mist that rolled in after five hours of the trip. Three hours later the train stopped and I turned to Saibera. “Where are we anyways?” I asked. He said nothing; he just motioned to my suitcase, got his own, and got up. I got my suitcase and followed him, and when we walked out we were on a pier with a small boat docked on the left corner. A rather muscular man was leaning on it sharpening a knife. My new “grandfather” walked up to him and said something, I couldn’t quite make out what but moments later he was signaling for me to get onboard. I walked on, and the boat began to move into the misty sea. A few hours passed and I was bored out of my mind. Gramps had decided to take a snooze below deck while I was forced to stay out to watch the surroundings. Nothing odd happened for a while, I was just sitting there when I heard the voice. The same voice I had heard at my apartment, along with a new one. “Why did you not heed my warning?” one said “Because he wished to feel us upon his neck” said the other, sounding slightly happy. “Please turn back, I implore you” said the first again, but then came the other “Or don’t”.
I looked around, desperately searching for the sources of the voices, but they were nowhere to be found. I searched for another hour, but I found nothing. Eventually I resigned, deciding not to give it much importance and looked out to sea. There I saw the shadow of a huge serpent like creature rise out of the water. I scowled. Had this dreadful mist not been there I would’ve surely captured it, but I could barely see it. Not to mention, a second later, it was gone. I decided that I would deal with this too when the time came. An hour later we docked at a small littler pier on a beach. Saibera came up to me and patted my shoulder, not out of kindness, more like his way of saying: “I’m glad we didn’t sink while you were on watch”, but then he said: “Gray, welcome to Mineral Town.” And walked away towards the town itself. I began to follow him when I noticed something white I had stepped on. I bent down and picked up a white piece of paper, folded. I unfolded it revealing red letters, the letters where obviously written in blood. The note said: “Turn Back While You Can!”
I didn’t really know what to make of this. All I could think was that someone didn’t want us in town, and that we had many troubles ahead… But in the back of my mind a small voice said: “Either that… or someone cares about you…”, but I shook this thought off and smiled. This was gonna be one hell of a mission.
