Yes, its true-- Firefly is back with a sequel to Through Mary's Eyes! Its about time I started a new fanfiction, don't you all think? This one is all about Mary's daughter, Yasmine, her crazy family, and her everyday life in Mineral Town!
Prologue~
A scream cut through the otherwise peaceful night of Autumn the 22. Most of Mineral Village was already sound asleep, as it was nearly eleven at night. The exception was five people, and, oddly enough, they were all at the Mineral Clinic, and for the same reason.
First, there was Elli. Elli lived at the Clinic, in the upstairs, anyway. She had lived there for all her life, since her parents passed away on the same day, within minutes of each other. The true reason to their death was not yet confirmed, and, although nobody spoke of the tragedy, everyone knew about it. There was only one valid picture of Elli's parents, and it was hanging in Ellen's, Elli's grandmother on her dad's side, room. Elli looked very close to her father, what with her light brown hair and large, animated, soft, caring brown eyes. Her mother, on the other hand, had dark black hair and chocolatey brown eyes, and Stu, Elli's younger brother by 6 years, looked almost identical to her. Ever since her parent's passing, Elli had come to live at the Clinic with Doctor Tim and his parents, who has been a nurse and doctor. Elli had been so interested in Tim's mother's work that she, too, became a nurse, while Tim became a doctor.
Doctor Tim also lived upstairs with Elli, in a different room, mind you. He was a very serious person, and always had been. But he had a kind side to him, a cheerful side, that usually only emerged when he was talking with Elli. Nowadays, the two had grown closer, and Manna, the town gossip, had even seen them on the Beach together one clear night.
Then there was Jack. Jack had moved to Mineral Village only two years prior to take over his deceased grandfather's farm. He was running a very successful farm, which many were surprised at, as the brown haired boy was raised in the busy city of Boston until the age of 18, when he had taken over Moomer Farm. But he was not alone at running his farm anymore, however, for three months prior he had married the girl of his dreams.
Mary was that girl. She did not have beautiful hair or stunning eyes, or have any fantastically recognizable talents, but she was the one Jack had chosen to wed. Unlike her husband, however, Mary had resided in Mineral Town all her 20 years of life. Since the age of 14, she had owned Mary's Library, her pride and joy. Her father, Basil, had decided she was old enough to start working, but as she had no job or there were no job openings suitable for a 14-year-old girl, he built her Library. Just months earlier, it had been deserted. But now, many people visited every day, keeping Mary company, and not just to read her books.
There was a good reason why every one of these four said people were at the Clinic, and not just because Elli and the Doctor happened to live there. Mary was two season's pregnant, and due to give birth tonight. The fifth person at the Clinic that night was baby Yasmine.

=o You live in Ohio, too? So do I! And yes, we had a test on the weekend.
Chapter One: ~
Almost seventeen years later, the product of that night laid out on the roof, gazing at the stars. Her long, blue-black hair fanned out around her, looking almost silver in the bright moonlight. She wore her pajamas; a pink T-shirt and gray sweat pants, along with soft, fuzzy pink slippers. Her chocolaty brown eyes gazed at the moon and stars with interest; they had always intrigued her creative mind.
The girl's name was Yasmine, meaning Flowering Olive. It was eleven o'clock at night, the perfect time to be stargazing, especially on a late Autumn's night. It was the 13th, to be exact, a day of celebration. She knew that soon it would be midnight, another day closer to her birthday.
"Yasmine...?" a sleepy voice called out. A dull light underneath her shone through the skylight, startling her. She knew that her mother was coming to check on her, as she did every night. She had to get to her room before Mary noticed her absence. Jumping down from the roof, she landed with a thud on the grass. She snuck toward her window and threw it open, before climbing in, slamming the window shut, and practically throwing herself in bed. Just as soon as she hit the bed, the door creaked open. Mary stood there, not carrying a light, but bringing the light from the hall into the room. She silently walked toward Yasmine's bed, her ebony hair swishing softly behind her, her dark eyes tired. At the bed, she brushed her hand through Yasmine's equally dark hair, brushing some of it out of her "sleeping" daughter's face. She leaned down and kissed her daughter's face, before standing up straight and walking away, closing the door shut behind her.
Opening one eye, then the other, Yasmine sat up straight, staring at the door. She was so used to this... Mary had done that since she was a little girl. Even now, she found it hard to sleep if Mary had not come in to check on her, even if it was an accident. She had always feared that Mary would forget about her, or not care anymore about her first child. Laying back down again, Yasmine thought about her three brothers. Mary loved them all equally, but Yasmine was her only daughter. There, alone in the dark, she wondered if Mary had wanted more daughters. She wondered if she had not been enough.
OoOoO
"Good MORRRRRRRRRRRRRRNING, Yasmine!" screeched Matt, Yasmine's 10-year-old brother. "Wha--?" Yasmine murmured as she opened her eyes slowly. Matt was standing over her, grinning mischievously from ear to ear, his moderate brown hair mussed with bed-head. "Gudmornin, Matt," she managed to say. "Let me go back to sleep now, please." She cuddled around in her warm blankets, not wanting to move. "But its already seven! Dad left an HOUR ago! You missed him AGAIN!" At this, Yasmine felt a twinge of guilt. Her father left for work every morning and came back at eight each night, exhausted. Sure, he worked at home most of the time, and Mineral Village wasn't the biggest town in the world, but Yasmine hardly saw him. "C'mon, Yasmine!" he pleaded. "Breakfast has been ready for twenty minutes, and Mum says we can't eat until you get up!" "Fine, fine," she grumbled as she threw off the covers. As she stuck her feet into her cold slippers, Matt ran off, apparently to tell the whole house that, finally, after many long years of waiting, Princess Yasmine had finally woken up from her deep slumber... Clucking slightly at this, Yasmine walked down the stairs at a fair pace, trying to get warm. Yesterday had been the Full Moon Festival, and, not having a boyfriend to go see it with, she had watched it from her roof as Mary and Jack made out under the stars.
"Well, it looks like Sleepy has finally woken up!" chucked Mary. "Hurry up now, dear. Don't want to anger the animals at feeding time, hmmm?" Outraged that he had been called an "animal", Nathan, the baby of the family, marched up to Mary and said, "I am NOT an animal!" Mary picked him up and hugged him-- being eight, he was still small enough to be carried. "Of course not, Nate. I was referring to Matt and Trey." Trey was 14 years old, and looking even groggier than Yasmine. "Looks like I'm not the only one half-awake," Yasmine said with a smirk, nodding toward Trey, who was practically drooling over the counter. Nathan giggled at his older brother as he gingerly set one piece of French Toast on his plate. Matt just grinned slightly, too distracted by the heaps of syrupy French Toast he was shoveling into his mouth at top-speed. "Now, now, Yasmine," Mary scolded her only daughter, although she was smiling, "don't anger him. His temper is almost as bad as yours." At this, Trey seemed to wake up. "Damn right it is!" he half-shouted as he stood up, glaring at Yasmine fiercely. "What was that?" Mary asked suddenly, her eyes flashing. "Just because you're fourteen doesn't mean you can go cursing the house down!" Still glaring, she slammed his plate down in front of him. "ONE piece?!?!" he asked in shock. "Just ONE piece? You trying to starve me?" "No," Mary answered calmly, "but you will not eat any more until you watch your mouth. You're lucky I didn't wash it out with soap." With that, she handed an empty plate to Yasmine, who put two pieces of French Toast on her plate. "Oy, skinny, mind if I take one?" Trey questioned, taking one of her pieces by his fork. "Hey, fatso, fork it over!" barked Yasmine angrily. Muttering more curses, Trey slapped down the piece of French Toast, splattering syrup everywhere. "Watch it," Yasmine snapped. She could fight with him now-- Mary was upstairs, and Matt and Nate were done eating. Making sure Mary was gone, Trey flicked Yasmine off. "Oh, shut up, you b--" But before Trey could finish cursing Yasmine, Mary came downstairs, the fire still in her normally kind eyes. "Trey...! What did I tell you?" she scolded, her voice rising angrily. "Get up. Now." Trey stood up straight, obviously mocking her. "Yes'm. I am standing, as you can see, even with those gigantic glasses--" "To your room, and DON'T you DARE talk back to me." Mary half-shouted. Trey's face turned purple. He opened his mouth as if to speak, but instead shuffled off to his room, glaring at Mary before slamming the door, rattling the pictures on the walls. "Men," Yasmine shook her head sadly. "So... urg." "Speaking of," Mary said, "Liam wanted to talk to you. He said to meet him under the tree near Mother's Hill...?" Mary raised an eyebrow, but she was smiling. "Oh, Mom, we're just friends!" Yasmine said, rolling her eyes. "Besides, we've met there since we were kids! Its not like its some huge secret." Without waiting for a reply, Yasmine sprinted up the stairs to get dressed.

Chapter Three: Liam~
Yasmine raced down the stairs moments later, dressed in a pair of faded blue jeans, a long-sleeved purple shirt, and a purple-and-orange striped scarf wrapped around her neck. As she skid around a corner, she almost ran straight into the wall as her brothers had done so many times. She slipped on her shoes and threw open the door, breathing in the crisp Autumn air, Matt and Nate close behind. They were outdoor people. Trey, on the other hand, was much more content sleeping or watching the few channels they had on their ancient T.V. “Matt, watch over Nate and make sure he doesn’t fall into the river or get stung by bees,” Yasmine cautioned her brother. Nate was known to get into trouble much easier than he could get out of it. Yasmine winced as she remembered the time he had fallen into the river and almost got mauled by the water mill. Pushing that thought from her head, she advanced towards the small bridge that separated Moomer Farm from Mother’s Hill Forest. She knew the forest well enough, having Jack and Mary for parents (They were both very experienced with Mother’s Hill and the forest area). It also didn’t hurt that she and Liam had met for the first time in the forest… she had heard Mary tell her the story many times… Shaking her head, Yasmine continued on her way, past the Kappa Pond. She turned by it and walked into the thick of trees until, a second later, she came to a tall maple tree, its usually emerald leaves beautiful shades of gold, red, and orange. Yasmine circled the tree before coming to a branch, which she swung herself up on. Hmm… Liam was not yet here… Well, it was understandable. He lived much farther away than Yasmine did to the forest… all she had to do was walk down— “Boo,” a soft voice whispered in her ear. Yasmine jumped, and whirled around to face a boy slightly older than her. He hung upside-down on a branch above her, his longish golden hair hanging out of his interesting green eyes for once. Smirking at her, he let go of the branch, now only held up by his legs, and rested his hands behind his head. His shirt fell down to his neck. “Liam,” Yasmine mock-scolded him, “don’t do that! You scared me! I almost fell out of the tree.” He shrugged. “Its not too far down from there. You’re only about three feet off the ground. Besides,” he added, “I would have caught you.” At that, Yasmine turned around, her face tinged pink. “…I’m too heavy now. Not like when we were seven.” Why did he bring that into the conversation…? It had happened ten years ago. He tugged on her scarf. “Really…?” he whispered. “I thought I was your guardian angel?” Yasmine whirled around and grabbed his shirt, trying to pull him out of the tree. “We-were-seven!” she huffed angrily, pulling roughly on the shirt, which, instead of pulling him down, ripped the shirt off instead. She turned an even darker shade of pink. Thrusting the shirt back at him, she turned and jumped out of the tree. “What do you want?” she asked faintly, still turned around as he pulled the shirt back on. “C’mon, Yasmine,” he said, “we’re friends. We’ve gone swimming together, and I don’t wear a shirt then! Besides, you were the one who took it off.” He hastily continued speaking before Yasmine could retort. “I just thought we could, you know, hang out. Like friends do.” He smiled. “That reminds me, did I tell you what Mom heard from Manna? It’s so unbelievably random that I’m surprised she bought it—especially since it’s about improving your cooking skills, and, well, as you know, Mom isn’t the best cook in the world…”
The next hour consisted of Liam telling the story of how Manna insisted that you would be the best cook under the sun if you put on a polka-dot dress upside-down (Karen had one from when she was drunk and bought one), dancing the tango while juggling all of your kitchen appliances for ten minutes, and singing the Star-Spangled Banner backwards, and in Latin. Unfortunately, this method did not work, and all it did was give Karen a headache (from dropping the miso on her head too many times). She still claimed that it was because she did not dance the tango correctly (although she also suspected her Latin was a little rusty). And then, they had traded stories and myths that they had also heard from Manna, from the theory that tree bark was really something that could be eaten to achieve “perfect abs”; to the story that Jeff, Karen’s father, was really a mermaid; and to Popuri cheating on Kai for a seagull (somehow, Rick and Lillia had not yet heard this). Before Yasmine knew it, it was almost time for lunch. “Oh, wow, Liam, its already twelve!” she exclaimed with a look at her shadow, which was not even visible anymore. “Mum’s gonna be wondering where I am, and I can’t trust Matt too looking after Nate for that long! He’s probably off riding one of the sheep of something!” she panicked. “Let me walk you there,” Liam offered quickly, before Yasmine had gone too far away. He marched up to her and clasped her arm jokingly. “Ma’am, stay near me at all times. You never know when a merperson will come out of the Kappa Lake,” he told her in a serious voice, although his eyes were twinkling. Yasmine laughed. “Oh yes, we don’t want Jeff sneaking up on us, do we?” she added. “Hey, loosen up on the arm, please. You’re turning it white. Look!”
