Chapter 54
Ann and Claire emerged from the back of the Inn, just as Jack and Pete finished descending from the stairs.
Claire grinned, “Nice timing guys.”
Jack and Pete laughed, while Doug exited from the kitchen.
“Here it is, since I did have some of this when I was cutting it up, I’ll let you have the rest. Jack let me say, well done.”
“Thanks Doug.”
Ann, Claire and Pete each picked up a piece and popped it into their mouths. Jack waited for their reaction.
Claire walked over to Jack and gave a hug, “Don’t worry Jack, Pete knows I consider you a friend. So let me add my name to the list of those who have said ‘good job’.”
“Thanks Claire. Pete did tell me that he does know that I’m a friend, and that you are not mad that he writes to a few other girls, that he met by that pen pal group.”
“Did he tell other things,” asked Claire. Then glancing over at Pete, Claire said, “Let me guess, he told you how he and I met.”
Pete avoided Claire inquiring glance.
Sighing Claire said, “I guess it is ok for you to know. But just don’t pass it along. Well maybe to Ann, Karen and Elli. Just make sure they promise not to pass it along.”
“Well when we get back from swimming, you could tell Ann, when you two are changing out of you swimsuits.”
Nodding Claire said, “You’re right.”
“Let’s go now, I don’t want to keep Karen and Elli waiting. One of the things my dad told me is to never make a friend wait to long, especially if it is a woman.”
Ann, Doug, Claire and Pete laughed.
Doug watched them leave, “Why do I have the feeling that how Claire and Pete met is somewhat embarrassing but also funny.”

Chapter 55
“Hey Jack! Is this Claire,” asked Karen.
“Yes. Claire let me introduce you to Karen and Elli,” said Jack as he pointed to Karen and Elli. “Girls this is Claire and Pete.”
Claire glanced at Jack, “Jack, they could take offense at that ‘girl’ comment.”
Karen grinned, “It’s ok Claire, Jack is one of the rare guys that don’t use girl in a negative way. So Elli, Ann and I don’t mind.”
Claire smiled, “Ok, I was sure how you felt about it. On our way here to meet you, Jack did tell me that the drinking age for this area is eighteen, so have about after we finish swimming, I treat you all to a beer?”
Karen and Elli glanced at each other then replied, “Ok.”
Ann spoke up, “I’ll have to drink mine later, since I’ll need to help my dad with more of the work to get the Inn ready for the Fireworks Festival.”
Elli reached into her tote bag, “Oh, Jack. Before I forget, I showed this to Karen and felt that you should see it as well. Tim wrote two more words on that ‘prescription to take today off to go swimming’.”
Jack looked at the note and burst out laughing, “Have fun?!? Well then you better, or else he will follow through with the penalty.”
“I have a feeling that he listened in on our talking and quickly wrote those two words.”
“Karen did say that it looks like Tim is showing that he cares for you.”
After they got close to the shoreline and placed their towels down, they lined up and dashed into the ocean. Then half an hour later the exhausted group flopped onto their towels.
Claire glanced over at Jack, “Jack, I just realized something. You’re not wearing that worn out blue cap. What happened to it?”
“I put it in a box for safe keeping. Even if it is worn out, it was given to me by Joe when I was leaving here with my parents. So I don’t want to throw it away just yet.”
“So it’s something to remember him by?”
“Yes.”
“Any thing else that you kept to remember him by, besides the cap and farm?”
“I left the farm’s name the same that he had it.”
“Which was….?”
“Bauer Farm, which was his last name.”
Claire smiled, “That’s nice of you Jack. I don’t think he would have been mad if you had changed it to your last name.”
“I know. Maybe when I get married I’ll change the name to include mine.”
“With his name first?”
“Maybe. I could flip a coin three times then whoever’s name wins gets top billing.”
Everyone laughed.
Ann saw that Kai was walking over with six bottles of soda, “Hi Kai, what’s up with the soda?”
“I had a feeling that all of you might be thirsty, also I wanted to give Jack a hard time, since he will be a roommate for two nights. But it looks like that there is going to be another person staying.”
Jack laughed, “Kai let me introduce my friend Claire and her boyfriend Pete.”
“So she is one of the Grand Jurors you were a part of?”
“Yes, in fact she was the foreperson.”
Claire chuckled, “I wouldn’t have been offended if that sign said foreman. I think that political correctness is getting too far with what is right to say about job titles.”
Jack said, “So what do we owe you for the sodas?”
Kai laughed and waved a hand, “See that you don’t have any money on you, the sodas are my treat.”
With an impish grin Elli said, “Kai since Ann and I are wearing one piece swimsuits, we could have some money tucked inside.”
Ann blushed slightly but joined in the laughter.
Kai grinned, “Which would mean that you would have to duck inside a restroom and remove your swimsuit. Besides the money would be soggy and stick to you.”
Elli nodded, “True, and some paper money doesn’t take getting wet very well. Also it doesn’t always feel good next to your skin. So I’ll speak for everyone here and say ‘Thank you’.”
“You’re welcome. So what plans do you have after you finish swimming?”
Claire said, “Well I found out from Jack that the drinking age here is eighteen. So I’m going to treat Ann, Elli, Karen and Jack to a beer.”
“That’s nice of you. Well I need to get back to my snack shack, so drop off those bottles when you head back to the Inn.”
Elli said, “Ok Kai, we’ll do that.”
After another round of swimming the group returned to their towels.
While they were drying off, Claire looked at Jack’s stomach, “Jack, it looks like your birthmark has blended in with your tan.”
Sadly and softly Jack said, “My birthmark has faded a bit.”
Elli sensed that what Jack said wasn’t true. Walking over and laying a hand on his shoulder she softly asked, “Jack your birthmark has faded more then a little bit, hasn’t it?”
Jack nodded.
Lightly shaking him Elli said, “Losing your birthmark doesn’t change who you are as a person, you are still a very nice guy.”
Sighing Jack replied, “I still feel that I’m losing a part of me that has been with me all my life.”
Tapping Jack’s chest, Elli said, “Don’t be sad. If it was Karen or me that you met and bathed with twelve years ago, we a least got to see it. But it wasn’t your birthmark that made one of us think you were cute. After all, did you think the girl was cute because of her birthmark?”
“No it was her face that made her cute.”
“See, you liked her for her face, not because of her birthmark or the rest of her ‘birthday suit’ that you saw.”
Jack smiled, “Thanks Elli.”
“You’re welcome Jack. Now let’s go and have those beers.”

Chapter 56
A red haired girl glared at Jack.
“I can’t believe my friend told you where my birthmark is!”
“Yours is on your boobie, right?”
“NO!!! MINE IS ON MY BUTT!!!”
Jack stepped a few steps back, “Why are you mad at me?”
“I DON’T WANT ANOTHER PERSON WHO DOESN’T LIVE HERE TO KNOW OF MY BIRTHMARK!!!”
“I won’t tell anyone! I promise.”
The red haired girl crossed her arms across her chest, “My friend said you have a birthmark. So show me yours.”
Jack pulled up his shirt.
The red haired girl crouched down and traced a finger around Jack’s birthmark, “It looks like a yacht.”
Jack looked surprised and lowered his shirt, “I always called it a boat.”
“Well since a lot of boats come here, my friends and I learned each type of boats there are.”
“Oh, that makes sense. What does your birthmark look like?”
The red haired girl mumbled a reply.
Jack looked at the girl, “Please tell me.”
“No.”
“Why?”
“You’ll make fun of it. Another boy that visited here saw it and made fun of it.”
“Did he have a birthmark?”
The red haired girl looked up at the sky then shook her head, “No.”
“I didn’t make fun of your friend’s birthmark.”
The girl nodded, “She did say that. I don’t know if you should see my butt.”
“Can’t you tell me what it looks like?”
As the girl was thinking about telling, a red haired woman walked up, “Ann, time for lunch. So, who is your new friend?”
Ann looked at Jack, “What is your name?”
“I’m Jack.”
Ann looked up at her mother, “His name is Jack mom.”
Ann’s mother softly laughed, “I see. What were you two talking about?”
Jack started to say, “We were.......”
Ann hastily stood up and covered Jack’s mouth with her hands, “Nothing mom!”
Ann’s mother frowned, “Ann that is very rude. Now tell me what it was you were talking about.”
Ann lowered her hands and slumped her shoulders, “I’m mad that my friend told Jack about my birthmark. Why did she tell him mom?”
Ann’s mother looked at Jack, “Why did my daughter’s friend tell you about my daughter’s birthmark?”
Jack lifted his shirt up again, “Her friend saw that I have a birthmark. Her friend and her friend’s mother walked in on my mom and me bathing. She was the only one that I know of that has a birthmark. When I was washing her friend’s hair, she said that she has two friends that have birthmarks. One friend has hers on her chest, though she calls is a boobie, and the other friend has her birthmark on her butt.”
Ann’s mother crouched down, “Did you want to see Ann’s birthmark?”
Ann blushed, “MOM!!!”
“Hush Ann, let him answer.”
Jack blushed, “Maybe, if she wants to show me.”
Ann’s mother looked at Ann, “Do you want to show him?”
“NO!!”
“Well, how about you whisper what yours looks like to him.”
“But he will laugh.”
“It wouldn’t be a mean teasing laugh, but a friendly laugh that you would use at a funny joke.”
Ann thought for a minute, “Ok.” Then whispered to Jack what her birthmark looks like.
Jack giggled, “That sounds like a nice birthmark.”
Ann’s mother stood up, “There you see, he didn’t make fun of it. Now we better get going our lunch is waiting. Do you want your father to eat our lunches?”
“No mom. Bye Jack.”
“Goodbye Jack.”
“Goodbye.”
Ann walked with her mother back to the Inn.
Ann’s mother looked down at Ann, “Don’t be mad at your friend if she told Jack about your birthmark.”
“Ok, she did say that he was cute.”
Ann’s mother softly laughed, “Maybe you could let Jack see it someday.”
Ann blushed deeply, “MOM!!!!!”
Bolting up into a sitting position on her bed, Ann then burst into tears, *Mom, are you trying to tell me something?*
A half hour later, someone knocked on her bedroom door.
“GO AWAY!”
The door opened and Doug peeked in, “Hey Pumpkin, why are you still in bed?”
“LEAVE ME ALONE!”
Doug walked over and saw that Ann had been crying, “Did you have a bad dream?”
Sobbing Ann replied, “No.”
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Doug held Ann in a hug, “Could you tell me about the dream?”
“I had a dream about mom.”
Ann then placed her face into her father’s chest and burst into tears again.
Gently stroking her head and rocking her Doug said, “It will be ok. She will always be in our hearts.”
After a few minutes passed Ann looked up at her father, “Jack was also in the dream. It was when he and I were six. I was yelling at him because he found out where my birthmark was. I don’t know if it was Elli or Karen who told him at the hot spring. I demanded to Jack that he show me his birthmark. I traced a finger around his birthmark, it looked like a yacht.”
“Which you saw again yesterday.”
“No dad, Jack’s birthmark has faded a lot. It has blended into the tan he has.”
“Then he must have told you yesterday.”
“No, we did ask him to tell us. But he didn’t want to tell us. He is sad that his birthmark is fading. So we decided not to continue asking.”
“How about when Jack comes back to stay for his last night here, you tell him about the dream?”
“I don’t know if I should.”
“Maybe you should. In your dream did you show him your birthmark?”
“No. He asked me to tell him what mine looks like and no, Jack didn’t see my birthmark when he saved me on my birthday. I was thinking about telling him, but kept saying no. Mom then came and said that lunch was ready. She asked what Jack and I were talking about. I was a bit rude and covered Jack’s mouth so he couldn’t say. But mom then asked again in the parental voice that says, ‘If you don’t tell me, you will be in BIG trouble’. So while Jack showed mom his birthmark. She wanted to know if he wanted to see mine. She asked me, but I said I didn’t want to show him. So mom suggested that I whisper to Jack what mine looks like. He said it was a nice birthmark.
“If I’m remembering right, Jack said his dreams have been in black and white. Was your dream in black and white?”
“No. After Jack said my birthmark was nice, mom and I headed back here to eat lunch, since we didn’t want you to eat our share of it.”
Doug chuckled, “I wouldn’t have been that mean.”
“I know dad. But as mom and I were walking back, I said that my friend said that Jack was cute. Mom then replied that maybe I should let Jack see my birthmark someday. I blushed and shouted ‘Mom!’ Then that is were I woke up crying. I’m wondering if mom is somehow trying to tell me something.”
Ann started to cry again, but not as hard.
Doug continued to hug and rock Ann, “Maybe she is. You did tell me earlier this summer that you feel comfortable enough that Jack could bathe with you. Also he did see some of you on your birthday. So you could ask Jack to bathe with you today.”
Ann blushed slightly and laughed, “Dad!”
“Ok, I did over hear you and Claire talking about going up to the hot spring. So I have a feeling that Claire might not want another guy seeing her naked.”
“Dad, Claire did say to Jack that he could bunk with her and Pete. That is before she found out we have separate lodging rooms for men and women. So Jack would have seen her naked when she was changing clothes if we did let them bunk together.”
“That’s true. Well do tell Jack about the dream. If you do have this dream again, and your friends name is mentioned, do tell Jack that.”
“Do you think that is wise? After all, I would like Jack to choose Karen. If I have this dream again, it might choose Karen’s name if it was really Elli.”
“Maybe yes, but maybe no. I have a feeling your heart will tell you the truth,”
“Ok dad, I’ll think about telling him. But for now, please leave so I can get dressed.”
“Ok Pumpkin.”
“Dad?”
“Yes?”
“Just don’t use that nickname you have for me in front of my friends.”
“I never have, and I never will.”
After Doug left, Ann opened a drawer in her dresser and pulled out a clean pair of clothes. Looking in the mirror she thought to herself, *Hmmm, I might ask Jack to bathe with me. If he didn’t make fun of it when he was six, he wouldn't make fun of it now. It would be very childish if he did call me ‘bunny butt’

Chapter 57
Jack came down the stairs he saw that Doug and Ann were not in the dinning area. Peeking into the kitchen he was about to call out when he saw Doug leave one of the bedrooms.
“Good morning Jack. Ann will be out in a bit, she…….. well she might tell you why she isn’t up making the coffee.”
“Ok Doug and good morning to you.”
“Come on in and I’ll get the coffee started. Oh, what would you like for breakfast?”
“Scrambled eggs, please.”
“Ok.”
As the coffee was brewing and Doug was cooking, Ann came out of her bedroom.
“Oh, good morning Jack.”
“Good morning Ann. Are you feeling alright?”
Ann glanced at her father as if to ask if he told Jack about the dream she had. Doug shook his head no.
“Well, I’m ok. It’s just that I had a sad dream.”
“Sad dream?”
Ann nodded, “Yeah, it was a dream with my mom in it. I was six years old in the dream.”
“That’s right, I remember asking about your mother.”
“My mom died a few weeks after my seventh birthday.”
Jack walked over and hugged Ann, “She will always be with you. Your heart will never forget her.”
Ann giggled, “Dad said the same thing. But thank you for saying it as well. This must be similar to what you told your cousin when her friend died in that crash.”
“Yes.”
“I need to think some more about if I should tell you about this dream.”
Jack stepped back and raised an eyebrow.
Ann smiled, “Please wait Jack.”
“Ok Ann.”
An hour after Jack left to go work at his farm, a sleepy Claire came down for breakfast.
Yawning Claire waved to Ann, “Morning Ann, could I get some coffee please?”
“Sure, how do you take yours?”
“Huh? Oh, with sugar please.”
Ann fixed up a cup for Claire, “Here you go Claire.”
“Thanks Ann. Did Jack take off already?”
“You’re welcome and yes he left an hour ago. I’m going to go to the hot spring in a few minutes. Since it is near Jack’s farm, why don’t you come along like we talked about yesterday?”
“Ok, then later I can show Pete where it is at. Let me finish this coffee first.”
“Alright, don’t forget your bathing kit.”
“Why?”
“Because you can take a bath up there.”
“Oh, that’s right. Sorry I’m still a little bit sleepy.”
“It’s ok Claire.”
A little later, as the girls were leave the Inn Claire asked, “Is something troubling you Ann?”
“What makes you think that something is wrong?”
“You don’t sound as cheerful as you were yesterday. Also your eyes are a bit puffy, as if you have been crying.”
“Well…..I had a dream about my mother.”
“I see.”
“In the dream I was six years old and yelling at a six year old boy.”
Claire glanced at Ann, “Let me guess, the six year old boy’s name was Jack.”
Ann nodded, “I don’t know if I should tell Jack about this dream.”
“Were you yelling at him for seeing you naked?”
“No. We were both wearing clothes. It was I had found out that he learned about my birthmark. In the dream the person’s name who told Jack about my birthmark wasn’t told.”
“I see.”
“Also in the dream I demanded to see Jack’s birthmark. He showed it to me. I didn’t show him mine. My mom came along and asked what Jack and I were talking about. I covered Jack’s mouth and said ‘Nothing’, but my mom felt I was being rude. So she asked again in a parental voice, so I answered her it was of my friend tell Jack about my birthmark. She asked why my friend told Jack. So Jack told her why and showed her his birthmark. She then asked if he wanted to see mine. He said only if I wanted to show him. After I said I didn’t want to show him, my mom suggested that I whisper it to Jack. I thought that Jack might make fun of it, but my mom said she felt he wouldn’t. He would use a friendly laugh. She was right, he giggled and said ‘that sounds like a nice birthmark’. Then as my mom and me were walking back to the Inn, after I said that my friend did say that Jack was cute, my mom said ‘maybe you could let Jack see it someday’. After I shouted ‘Mom’, I woke up crying.”
“Hmmm, I see. Did you ask your father what you should do?”
“My dad did suggest I tell Jack, but I don’t know if I should.”
“Well, if it will help Jack, you should tell him.”
“I did tell Jack that I needed to think it over. I only told him that the dream had my mom and me. I didn’t tell him that he was in it as well.”
“We could at least go by Jack’s farm, so I can say good morning to him.”
Ann grinned and chuckled, “Ok.”
A few minutes later Jack looked up to see two girls were walking through his farm, “Good morning Claire. How are you today?”
Claire smiled, “I’m doing great. So this is your farm?”
“Yes. As you can see, Gotz is adding onto my house. Over there is the barn and next to it is the stable, with my horse Zephyr. Then in the south west corner is the chicken coop that will be repaired right after the house extension. Lastly is my field with a pasture, that I hope to use soon.”
Claire smiled, “With the exception of the chicken coop, it looks like you are doing well. Would it ok for me to see Zephyr?”
“Sure! He is still too young to ride, but Barley tells me that Zephyr should be big enough next spring.”
“So why did Barley name the horse Zephyr?”
“I was the one who named him that. Something about his look, made me feel that he would be fast.”
Stepping into the stable the trio walked over to the young horse. Zephyr looked up from the trough containing oats. Nickering he walked over to Jack.
“Hey Zephyr, I would like to introduce you to my friends Claire and Ann.”
Claire and Ann glanced at each other and giggled. They then gently petted Zephyr for a few minutes. Afterwards Jack escorted them to the bridge on the south side of his farm.
Halfway across the bridge Ann turned to Jack, “Jack, in the dream I had this morning. My mother wasn’t the only person I talked to.”
“I see.”
“You’re not going to ask me who the other person is”
“No. I have the feeling that you want to tell me, but you are unsure if you should tell me.”
“You’re right Jack,” then after a deep breath Ann said, “You were the other person.”
Jack widened his eyes, “What?!?”
Ann nodded, “Yes. I was yelling at you for knowing where my birthmark is. You showed me your birthmark………..I don’t blame you for being sad that it is disappearing. My mother came and found out what we were talking about. She wanted to know if you wanted to see mine. You said ‘only if she wants to show me’. After my mom asked me if I did want to show you and I had said no. She suggested I whisper what mine looks like to you. After I did that, you said that mine ‘sounds nice’.”
Jack blinked his eyes, “You told me?”
Ann nodded, “Yes.”
Jack closed his eyes and softly muttered, “Ann told me, Ann told me.”
Ann started to say something, but thought that it would be wise to remain silent to let Jack think. She glanced at Claire and saw that Claire had a hopeful look on her face.
Jack slowly opened his eyes, “Rabbit, you birthmark looks like a rabbit.”
Ann nodded, “Yeah, it looks like a bunny.”
“Why do you look upset that I know what your birthmark looks like?”
“I’m worried that it will cause you to have a false memory of what Karen’s or Elli’s birthmark looks like.”
“It could, but I have a feeling that the birthmark of that little girl was not an animal.”
“But Jack…..”
“Don’t worry Ann. If anything, this could help me figure out who that little girl was. Also since it was you who helped me know that my birthmark looked like a yacht. Before then I had always called it a boat. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome Jack.”
A polite cough was heard. Turning Jack and Ann saw Claire smiling.
“I don’t mean to break up this conversation, but I would like to soak in the hot spring.”
Ann lightly slapped her forehead and with a grin said, “Whoops! How could I forget showing my new ‘big sister’ where the hot spring is. Now Jack don’t you dare sneak up and peek in on us.”
With an equal grin Jack replied, “Or else?”
“Claire, what should we do if he does peek in?”
Grinning Claire said, “We leave, then come back and while he is bathing. We steal his clothes.”
As they were laughing, the sound of a child crying was heard coming from the path going to Mother’s Hill. They turned to see Stu running towards them.
Ann and Jack said, “What’s wrong Stu?”
Stu ran by them with tears in his eyes. A few minutes later May came running towards them.
“Did you see Stu?”
“He ran by us. May what happened? Why was he crying?”
May started to cry, “We were playing house up at the Goddess Pond. I said our pretend son wet his bed. Stu started to cry and then just ran off.”
Jack said, “Let’s go see Ell. We’ll find out why Stu got upset.”
Sniffling May said, “Ok.”
Jack looked at Claire and Ann, “I’ll let you two know why this made Stu upset.”
Claire and Ann said, “Ok Jack.”
As the girls watched Jack and May head into town, Claire said, “Boy, the mood changed quickly. I hope that it will get better.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“Would it be ok for me to ask about May and Stu?”
“Sure, but let’s talk about it up at the hot spring.”
Ann and Claire continued onto the hot spring without another word.

Chapter 58
Knocking on the door to Ellen’s house, Jack stood with May.
“May don’t cry, I’m sure that Stu doesn’t hate you.”
“But he will.”
The door opened revealing a slightly upset Elli.
“Jack, May, do either of you know what upset Stu?”
May burst into tears, “Stu and I were playing house up at the Goddess Pond. I told him that our pretend son wet his bed. But Stu started crying and ran off. I don’t know why he did that.”
Elli knelt down and hugged May, “Oh sweetie, Stu gets upset when he hears people talk about bedwetting. He used to do it a lot. So he thinks that people are making fun of him.”
“I wouldn’t make fun of him. I like him.”
Elli smiled, “You like my brother?”
May nodded and then whispered something to Elli.
Elli glanced up at Jack and winked an eye.
Elli said, “I won’t tell Stu or any other boy what you told me. Since my grandma is a girl, it should be ok to tell her. After all, we girls do keep secrets that boys shouldn’t know.”
May giggled, “But Jack is nice, I think he can be told.”
“But Jack is a boy.”
May nodded, “He is the only boy that can be told.”
“Ok. Jack would you crouch down so May can tell you?”
Jack crouched down and May whispered, “I really really like Stu.”
Jack smiled, “Don’t worry May, I will not tell this to anyone else. Unless you tell me to.”
“You promise?”
“Yes, I’ll even pinky swear to it.”
Elli and May giggled.
Jack raised up his left hand with his pinky extended, “Well?”
May and Elli joined their left pinkies to Jack’s pinky.
All three said, “I promise.”
May asked, “Who is that blonde girl that was with Ann that you were talking to?”
“That’s my friend Claire. She and her boyfriend came here to see the firework.”
“She’s pretty.”
“She is also nice.”
May nodded, “You can tell her and Ann. But make them pinky swear not to tell anyone.”
“Ok, I will.”
Elli smiled, “Thanks Jack. I’ll see if I can get Stu calmed down, so May can say she is sorry for making him cry. Also that she was crying, so he should apologize as well.”
“Ok, I’ll go back and finish up the farm work I was doing before Claire and Ann came through.”
“You gave Claire a tour?”
“Yes, though she still needs to meet Hero.”
“Why? Wasn’t he with you?”
“No. I have a feeling that he is watching Gotz work on my house.”
“So what do you think he will do when he does meet Claire?”
“The usual, lots of doggie kisses.”
Elli and May giggled.
Jack grinned, “Well he thinks you girls are sweet.”
May giggled while Elli laughed.
The door to Stu’s room opened. Wiping tears out of his eyes Stu said, “What are you laughing about?”
Jack smiled, “We were laughing about how Hero likes to give doggie kisses to girls, when they crouch down to say hello to him.”
Stu looked at Elli, “Is Jack lying?”
Elli shook her head, “No Stu.”
May started to cry again, “I’m sorry I made you cry Stu.”
Stu shuffled a foot, “I’m sorry I made you cry. I like you as a friend.”
May nodded, “I like you as a friend too.”
Jack and Elli glanced at each other, smiled and winked an eye.

Well of course I wanted it to be cute. After all, when you are six years old you really don't want to admit that you love someone your own age, who is of the opposite sex. #shifty# That would be just wrong. So you would just say that you really really like them. ;D
