Warning: CRACK FIC! Character death!(Though he was never in the game, so I don't know why I should put that up.)
One of the very first mistakes I made when I played my first HM game(64) was that I thought Lillia was one of the eligible bachelorettes. While she was very flattered and became my best friend, I felt very embarrased when I found out she was married. Her hubby was almost never there, so I never knew!
This is part 1 of 3 final oneshots I plan on making right now. Part 2 brings back one of the only two girls to run away from Mineral town. Part 3........a suprise!
Here's where Jack and Lillia get together.
Be my magic knight Jack!
Jack Harvest stared at his chicken coop proudly as the sun began to rise. All his chickens had won the chicken festival. To be honest, he only had three, but he was still proud of all of them. His farm was also his pride and joy. He never thought farming would be his calling when he found himself thrust into that world so suddenly. At first, he just wanted to try it out, and if it didn't work, so be it. However, the more he pulled up the tiny miracles he made himself, the more he felt drawn to the place.
It didn't help that he was in love either.
Yet, it was a forbidden love. For the woman he loved was married. Plus, she had kids. Two of them, in fact. Living in the lot right next to him, layed his pink haired angel, Lillia. It was a well known fact around town that Jack was her occasional caretaker and that Zack was madly in love with her. Still, as Jack began to put some golden eggs into the shipping bin, he remembered the day he fell in love with her.
Flash back to Summer 12, first year
Jack had just pulled up his first corn harvest, and he was rather proud that the heat didn't deter his confidence any. Just as he finished putting all but two of the ears of corn in the shipping bin, he heard a voice calling out to him.
"Hey Jack!"
When he went to investigate, he found it was Rick, rather out of breath.
"What's up Rick?" Jack asked.
"Grrrr.......Popuri is hanging out with that darned Kai again. I wanna go talk to the both of them, but I'm worried about leaving my mother alone with her health being the way it is. Can you watch over her in my place?" Rick explained, asked, and pleaded.
Jack checked his watch, and he knew he didn't have anything scheduled today. "Sure, just let me milk my cows and feed my chickens." he told Rick.
Said chicken raiser's face brightened immensely. "Thanks Jack. You know, you're a good guy to always be looking after her when we're busy." Rick told him before running off to the beach, shouting, "KAI, STOP FLIRTING WITH MY SISTER!" all the way.
Shaking his head at Rick's antics, and how idiotic he was being, Jack finished shipping out the corn and proceeded to feed the two chickens he owned , shipped the eggs, and milked his cow, saving the milk for Lillia as a present.
Done with his chores, Jack headed over to the Poultry Farm, and entered the home/store of Lillia, Rick, and Popuri. "Hello? Lillia, are you there? It's me, Jack." he said as he opened the door a bit.
He saw a head of pink hair and a beautiful smile from Lillia appear from the kitchen. "Hello Jack, I was about to make myself some lunch. Do you need some feed for your chickens?" she asked.
"No. Rick asked me to watch over you for a little while. He's still trying to 'convince' Popuri that Kai isn't good for her." Jack explained.
"Oh, when will that boy learn? He's put so much responsibility on his shoulders he hasn't even seen his sister grow up." Lillia sighed.
"Here, I brought you some milk." Jack said with a smile on his face as he handed her the fresh bottle.
"Thanks very much." Lillia replied as she smiled right back.
Jack gave her a goofy grin at the compliment and rubbed the back of his head. "It's not a problem." he told her.
"Would you like some lunch too? It's just some scrambled eggs, but I have plenty." Lillia offered.
Jack's stomach growling answered before he did.
Lillia just giggled as she put some more eggs to fry.
That's when Jack knew, this kind and caring woman, he was slowly falling in love with her as they ate and made small talk.
end flashback
Looking at his calendar, he noticed it was the 19th of Spring(Year 3). He looked alarmed now, as it was Lillia's birthday. Quickly stepping out of his chicken coop, he preformed his various chores for the day and quickly grabbed his present for her, a dress he had won during the fall horse races. Last year he gave her some earrings, and she had kissed him on the cheek as a thank you. He still blushed when he thought of that.
Taking the wrapped present in hand, he walked over to the Poultry Farm where Popuri and Rick let him right in, since he had become a friend of the family. They had gotten Doug to make the birthday cake for her. Looking at the candles, Jack saw that she was 35. He was a bit suprised, knowing that with Rick and Popuri's ages, she must have gotten pregnant sometime in her teen years. Putting that thought aside, he smiled a true smile when he saw her.
Hours later, cake was eaten(mostly by Rick, but Jack had quite a bit too), presents were passed around(Jack got another kiss on the cheek from Lillia when she saw the dress), and games were played. Almost nothing could have made this day go wrong. That is, till the mailman came.
Lillia looked at the letter handed to her and gasped. It was from a desert town out where her husband Rod was last seen, and there was a packet of seeds inside along with a letter. She quickly scanned through the letter once, twice, three times before tears filled her eyes and she started crying tears of sorrow.
All three party helpers descended on her straight away, asking what was wrong, and when Lillia handed them the letter, they were shocked as well. It made Popuri, and even Rick cry.
The letter read,
"Dear Ms. Lillia, I am sorry to inform you that not too long ago we discovered the body of your husband, Rod. He was found in the desert with a handful of seeds clenched tightly in his fist. He died from heatstroke. I heard the reasons for why he came here in the first place, and I'm truly sorry to tell you that just as he achieved his goal that his life slipped away. Attached to this letter were the seeds in his hands. Although the flower likes to bloom in the desert, if there is a farm nearby, you can grow it there too. Again, I'm truly sorry for your loss. We buried your husband here, as sending him home for a funeral is too costly for our poverty stricken village. Condolences, Mikal, mayor of Dune City"
Jack looked at the seeds that were dropped on the floor, and read the letter once. Picking up the seeds, he put them in his backpack and walked outside, letting the family mourn.
Fall 1, year 3
Jack was now really worried about his love Lillia. Ever since she read that her husband died right when he finished his mission, her health had spiraled for the worst. When Popuri and Rick weren't taking care of her, he and Doctor Tim were. It seems like that without a true love, her will to live was just sapping away slowly.
He had taken on the responsibility to grow the flowers Rod had died finding, but even through the rest of spring and all of the summer, they had yet to bloom. Soon, though, he knew as he looekd at the patch of flowers, they would bloom. However, he didn't know if Lillia would last long enough for him to give Tim the flowers so he could make the medicene from it.
So it was time to call in a favor.
Taking out one of the pieces of corn he had saved from his summer harvest, Jack headed to the Pond of the Harvest Goddess. Throwing in the piece of corn, he was quickly graced with her presence.
"Hello there Jack." She greeted.
"Hello Harvest Goddess. I need a very big favor, and I don't have much time-" Jack started to say before the Harvest Goddess cut him off.
"You want the flowers to bloom so you can save Lillia. I know." The Harvest Goddess said with an all-knowing smile.
"How-" Jack began to ask before he was cut off again.
"Silly Boy, what kind of Harvest Goddess would I be if I didn't check over the area I help out in? Other than that, I can tell what you're feeling when you are planting your crops. Your hopes, dreams, and needs go in with the seeds, and I get to check up on you whenever you plant something. I can tell you love this woman very much. So just this once. I'll help you out twice, and play matchmaker." The Harvest Goddess said before vanishing.
"Matchmaker?" Jack asked himself before running back to his farm.
Same date, later that night
Lillia was sweating badly as she turned in her sleep. Lately, she was slowly doing less and less around the house. She began to collapse more often and go into coughing fits randomly. She knew this was hurting her children, but she just didn't think she deserved the right to even live anymore. Yet, everyone was doing what they could to save her.
Didn't they see she wanted to be with Rod again?
When she slept, her usual nightmare slowly faded away into a dream. She was sitting on a grassy hill, bordering next to a desert. Looking at it, she saw Rod and began to run over to him, crying and wanting to be in his arms again. She got her wish when she reached the border, and Rod's arms reached out to hug her.
"Oh Rod.......finally we can be together again!" She cried.
"Lillia.......I'm sorry." Rod said. "However, it's not your time. You still have Rick and Popuri to take care for. If you died now, they would be devestated, and the damage done would be irrepairable for everybody. Besides, I'm not the only one who loves you." he let her go after that and turned her around.
Lillia was saddened by her husband's truthful words. Then she got confused when he said someone else loved her just as much as he did before he let her go and turned her around.
She saw Jack desperately trying to make the flowers Rod had searched for bloom, and then she saw him running to the Harvest Goddess herself for help.
"He loves you with an intensity that matches my own. Taking out much needed time to take care of you, trying to save you. Lillia, it's time for you to move on." Rod said.
"But........Rod.......I don't want you to go....." Lillia said as tears formed in her eyes.
"I'll always be with you in your heart. Go to him now....and live a better future." Rod said before walking back into the desert, where the rare flowers bloomed in the hundreds.
Lillia let the tears flow freely as she nodded, and walked into Jacks waiting arms, enjoying the warmth he gave her.
Next morning, Fall 2, Year 3
Jack woke up bright and early the next day. He didn't know what the Harvest Goddess meant when she said she'd grant him two favors, but he knew that if those flowers didn't bloom soon, his beloved would die. Quickly walking over to the flower patch, he shouted for joy when he saw that the flowers had bloomed. Deciding he would get the harvest sprites to take care of the chores, he picked five of the twenty flowers and ran to the clinic, where he nearly slammed the door down trying to get the doctor up.
"Jack.....do you know what time it is?" Tim asked as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.
"I know it's early, but I finally got them to bloom, the flowers for Lillia." Jack said putting the five flowers in his hands.
Jack's words woke Tim up instantly. "These are the flowers! By god Jack, I'll finally be able to make the medicene to cure her!" He shouted before closing the door and getting to work on the cure.
After getting the Harvest Sprites to take over his farm for the day, Jack went back to the clinic and saw that Tim was done. "Come. We have a patient to fix." he said as they went to the Poultry farm.
It didn't take very long for them to get there, or enter. Tim administred the medicene to Lillia, and the results were near instantenious as the color in her cheeks started to come back from pale to light pink.
Lillia moaned a bit as she slowly got up and saw Jack and Tim next to her, letting out big sighs of relief.
"What happened?" Lillia asked weakly.
"Jack here is what happened. He managed to get the seeds Rod sent to bloom. He took them to me, and I managed to make the medicene needed to cure you. I injected it directly into your bloodstream, so you should get some energy back. But the rest of the medicene you have to drink in tea form. I'll leave you with Jack so I can get the rest of the medicene." Tim explained as he left the room.
"Jack......you did all of this for me? Why?" Lillia asked.
"I......I did it cause I've been in love with you for the longest time. Your caring, devoted, and always trying to make others smile, despite the pain you've been in. No other girl in this valley can do what you do. So......Lillia, I love you!" Jack admitted, his face going beet red.
Lillia gasped a bit, last nights dream being recalled. Rod's words, how she felt when she hugged Jack in the dream, the warmth that he gave her......
So she had to see if reality was just as good as the dream. She wrapped her arms around Jack and hugged him. Sure enough, the warmth she felt was twice as strong as in the dream.
"Thank you Jack........I'll always love Rod, but he's gone now. I have to move forward." Lillia said.
Jack looked a bit crestfallen, but nodded and hugged her back.
"I want to move forward with you." Lillia finished as she kissed Jack.
Jack was suprised when he felt Lillia's lips press against his own, and he returned the kiss with the same passionate feelings he had for her since that day.
"Although a couple of people will not approve of this relationship, I just want to know, will you be my magic knight Jack?" Lillia asked.
"I'll be whatever knight I need to be." Jack said before he kissed her, which was returned happily.
Outside of the Poultry farm, A man wearing a cloak, with bright orange hair, glasses, and a smile on his face that would never go away along with a woman wearing green slowly vanished as they saw the newly found couple of Mineral Town, knowing their jobs were done, and everybody could move on.
(Wow, this is my longest one-shot yet.) Compliments, critiques welcomed!
