What I wanna know is: why hasn't Natsume rereleased this thing on Virtual Console yet? I wanna play it, but I don't own an N64 (and even if I did, I don't wanna fork over $40+ for a copy of the game), and N64 emulators never work the way they're supposed to.
Maybe it's Karen and Kai's Pikachu baby? Then again, if there was some sort of legal issue, I doubt Nintendo would have allowed them to use Pikachu in the first place (unless someone was too lazy to play far enough into the game to check it out?).
But if it is a problem, it should be easy enough to fix.

I've heard it has to do with the ESRB rating; they (the ESRB people, I guess) want the games rating changed due to use of alcohol, and for whatever reason Natsume can't/won't. I have no idea if it's true, but that's what I've heard.

Well, that's perfectly reasonable.
Why on Earth won't they just change it? There are plenty of games on VC and WW with a T rating or higher, it's not like Natsume would be setting some kind of nasty precedent.
And they could always remove that stuff if they want to keep it at E, or at least I would imagine they could. Does HM64 reference alchohol other than in the text? Text can be changed. Even when it was clear that the characters were drunk, it didn't stop them from doing the exact same thing (calling the wine "juice") with the first HM on the SNES, and THAT game managed to make it onto Virtual Console with no change in the rating.

The entire premise of the New Year's Festival is to drink as much as you can without passing out.
I have no proof that the ESRB rating is why it's not on the VC. I'm just restating a rumor I've heard.

Well, I went ahead and downloaded the original Harvest Moon on VC.
I've played through it at least 5 times before (one with each wife) on my SNES emulator, but I figure if enough people download the first one, maybe Natsume will be persuaded to release HM64.
Besides, I'm curious if they've fixed that glitch with the shipper kid at one of the festivals.

Far as I can tell, Natsume just screwed up their master copy of HM64 too much to re-release it. I'd share my feelings more thoroughly on the matter, but A) this is the wrong thread for that, and B) I'd prefer not to get banned within my first 24 hours on this board.
Oh, yeah. And the little pink bunny ears win.
EDIT: 5 years, 3 months, and 8 pages worth of posts.

I'd say it's a distinct possiblity. I like the fact that it refuses to stay entirely dead, though...
