Anyone here ever play it? I've heard its one of the worst games in the HM series! Is it really that bad?

You can't get married. The character's relationships are erased every time you finish an ending. I'd say it is.

Save the homeland is so far from being the first! The first one was released in about 1995 which PS2 wasn't invented until about 2000's.

Yes... maybe so... But I've also firmly decided that the most beautiful HM pictures are associated with Save the Homeland.
