Dunno if any of you guys heard about the forest fires in New Jersey, but they're really close to where I live. Not too long ago, the wind shifted and we could smell the smoke (we've been seeing it since yesterday afternoon). It's pretty scary. The odds of the fire spreading to the part of town where I live are pretty slim, but I'm still scared. ;_;
I'm wondering if we might be evacuated, not because of fire, but because of the smoke.
It's raining now, but they siad on the news that lighting is a threat.

lightning is a threat?
If it's raining, it should put out the fires and make the smoke stop, right? I don't know much about fires. Once there was a fire by my house, a few houses down. Apparenly it had been going on for 4+ hours! When I got home the firefighters were still putting it out. I was really nervous that it would spread.

lightning is a threat? If it's raining, it should put out the fires and make the smoke stop, right? That's what I assumed, but the people on TV said the lightning could cause more fires. I guess they know more than we do about this. I don't smell the smoke as much now, so that's a good sign.

I hope so.

I can see smoke, but it's too far away to see the actual fire from my house.

since yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon... An F-16 dropped a flare in a exercise at the bombing range.... I still smell it once in awhile even now .. They are even using Black Hawks to help put out the fire

It rained all night and the fire is around 70% contained (last I heard anyway, which was a while ago)
The strange part is, the storms caused massive amounts of damage all over New Jersey due to high winds, but around here, it basically just rained, which is what we needed.
