When playing a Harvest Moon game, how do you go about courting marriage candidates? Do you woo them all evenly in order to get the best feel for them (...that may not be the best choice of words) or do you only court a few you especially like? Have you ever gone into a game expecting to marry one character, only for a different character to win you over?
I tend to focus on a few marriage candidates, especially in the games that have 10+ candidates. I can woo five characters pretty easily, but it's hard to keep track of larger numbers.
Though I never actually finished the game, I'd expected to marry Marlin in DS Cute, but I kept triggering events with Griffen, and he grew on me and I started wooing him over the others. And in AP, I thought I'd marry Owen for sure, but now that Calvin is around, I'm not so sure...

eh, i usually woo 'em all at once, even knowing who i'm gonna marry. i'm a whore. XD i do put more effort into wooing my spouse, though; like, i'm always sure to give him presents EVERY day and stuff. i wanna make sure he's the one who likes me most for events. but they're usually all around the same level. only exception of this was magical melody; ten bachelors was way too many to woo all at once. by the time dan was at ten hearts, i'm pretty sure i only had the rest of the guys at six or seven (excluding louis, who i always forgot to woo <_< .

I always forget Louis too >.>;
But yeah, when you have ten guys (or girls) it can get hard. Someone always falls behind, though that does add to the replay value of Magical Melody.

I typically woo all of my favorites, and let the best girl win. Time after time, I have found myself liking someone I never thought I would.
Ex. Maya I didn't think I would like her, but she's so funny and bubbly. I don't care if she has the IQ of a styrofoam cup, she's so awsome.

Yeah, I didn't think I'd like Will in SI; he looked too pretty in the art and screenshots. But once I started playing, I found him to be very charming.

I decided to do something different when I replayed HM64, and woo Elli. Simply because I've never chased her EVER. And now I actually rather like her, she's quite interesting!

are you going to do that sidequest where you can get her grandmother to die in HM64?

I thought that was mandatory. As in, you can change the time, but not the event?

I thought that was mandatory. As in, you can change the time, but not the event? didn't really understand that, but her death is completely optional. she'll only die if you talk to her during spring of your second year. that's the only time that event can be triggered.

OHHH, I thought if you be-friended her she died or didn't. I'd heard something to that effect.

From what I have heard, Ellen will die if you talk to her when her rocking chair is still. When she starts to rock her chair again, then she will continue living.

My first couple of play-throughs I choose one or two I like. Then when I go back again, I try to get all the heart events, just to be complete...and to be Cassanova.

I've been playing Animal Parade lately, with the intention to marry Selena, but I'm finding myself really liking Candace and Luna. I don't want to cause a rift between the sisters though, which sounds silly.
In ToTT, while I did end up marrying my first choice, Kana, I really found myself liking Cam a lot. (heh, that sounds funny)
Edit: Also, yeah, it is totally possible to marry Elli in HM64 while Ellen is alive.

In the first few HM games i would woo them all. There were only five at the time and there was no rush really, i always knew who i was going for though. I just wanted to see all the heart events.
But with newer HM games i do have to choose the few that i take a liking to. It's usually Luke and Owen in TOT/AP if i'm playing as a girl or Kathy and Selena if i'm playing as a guy. TOT and AP are the only 'newer' games that i've really got into.
Huh, i just realised those choices are the rivals for the other. XD
