Is Tides of Destiny any good?

Natsume is having their summer blow-out sale, with price drops on games and every order ships with a free tote bag. So, I've decided to splurge a bit and buy a game.

I didn't like the first RF game and have avoided the series ever since. I've sometimes thought I should give RF a second chance, but I'm wondering how ToD compares to the first game.

If it's not good, are there any games for DS/Wii/3DS available in the shop that you can recommend? (I don't have a 3DS yet, but I've been saving up for one). If ToD isn't good, I might buy the 3DS version of ToTT. I've heard it's glitchy though :/

I bought Tides of Destiny for myself, and it's a fun game. However, I might note that it's a massive turn away from traditional HM play mechanics, focusing more on capturing monsters to work as your labor force than actually farming for yourself.

Still, it has an engaging story and fun characters. You might want to look into a few gameplay videos to judge for yourself.
