This is regarding a story I'm writing (I may or may not post it, depending on how it turns out).
In the story, Kikyou, Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango, Shippou, Kagome, and Kirara are stuck on an island. There is a barrier around the island, so Kirara can't bring them back, and none of them can swim because of the current or something. >.> Also it's too far for Inuyasha to jump/fly.
I made it so that there's no way for them to escape, because otherwise Kikyou or Inuyasha (or maybe somebody else, but most likely one of them) would figure out the way to escape.
I don't want them to all die, and I want them to have to figure out how to do it on their own, unless the little girl (12 years old) can figure it out. O.o

They are all actually dead, and it's hell.
What? That's how I would do it.
But you should of given it a time line or something, Maybe do that.

I'm not very organized (ever) and I usually make up my stories as I go. The only problem is that I've made any ending where they make it out alive impossible. >___>

Then do what Pickle said and have them all dead. They don't know they're dead and trapped in Hell/Purgatory, and keep trying to escape.
