Prologue

My head rested on the palm of my hand. My eyes shifted left to right as the moving van passed by all the farms and fields while hitting bumps occasionally. I had been dreading this moment for weeks. But I couldn’t believe when I looked at the calendar and it read, “Spring 1”. Who could have thought that a 18 year old girl, just out of High School, would be sent off, by her mother, to live on a farm in the country previously owned by her grandfather. Yea, I know, a mouthful. But that’s exactly what happened. I bet you know by now that I wasn’t all to happy about it. But either way, I couldn’t just up and leave. I had to stay, and that’s what angered me the most.

Chapter 1: New Beginnings


3 weeks later…

“Mindy. Mindy? Mindy!”, she yelled pounding on the door.

Eve did this every morning. Well it felt like that anyway. Truth is, it was actually 3:00 in the evening already. Every night, since my move here, I had either been to upset to sleep, or just insanely drunk. Last night, I had been drinking. The result of that was a major headache that was known as a hangover.

Reluctantly, I got out of bed. As I was doing this, Rocky stumbled out as well, from under the blanket. For some strange reason, that dog was always in the wrong places at the wrong time. Anyways, I got up and made the blankets. Then walked over to the door and opened it to see Eve with her hands on her hips giving me an angry look.

“So? I see you just barely got up. Not every festival happens after 6:00 Ms. Garcia. How are you ever going to get your things done early so that you actually have some spare time? Well, lets just forget it. We have to meet Dia and Gwen in a couple of hours. So get ready!”, Eve said all at once.

Now you know my name is Mindy, and my last name Garcia. You also know that Eve lectures me every morning in the same tone. Over a period of just three weeks, I had grown to like Eve a lot. Some would say she was my best friend. I guess it was just the fact that we were both city girls and could relate to one another. Anyways, I left to the bathroom to take a shower.

When I got out, Eve was kneeling down pouring food into Rocky’s bowl. I knew this would result into another lecture, this time about Rocky. So I headed towards the kitchen to make something for her and I to eat. That’s when she sat on a stool and gave me her look, that meant she was going to ‘teach’ me something.

“You know, I noticed Rocky didn’t have any food in his bowl this morning. Was there a reason for that Mindy? If there isn’t, then I guess I have to be the one to tell you that if a dog doesn’t eat, its going to die”, Eve said sarcastically.

“I know that. I filled it up last night, despite how drunk I was. I guess he ate it all when I was sleeping. After I took a shower I was going to fill it up. But when I was done taking a shower, you had already filled it up”, I said informingly.

Eve was quiet and got up from to stool to sit on my bed. Rocky jumped up and let her pet him affectionately. In case you didn’t know, Rocky and I met three days after my arrival and was given to me by Ellen and her father of the Blue Farm. They didn’t have time to care for a puppy, and I needed at least one friend. Even if its only been three weeks since I’ve had him, it feels like forever.

After eating, I put on my clothes and the little makeup I actually wore. Eve was watching my every move, making a sound that she did with her nails that she had gotten done in the city a week ago. Personally, I hated nails, they were so…frilly. Back to the point, after getting ’fully’ ready, Eve, Rocky, and I headed out of my house and down the path towards the where all of the village’s shops were located.

I live on, well, by the beach, so it’s a pretty long way to get to where we were headed. Back home, I was popular, so only knowing a couple of people made me feel very uncomfortable. But my popularity was only because of Brandi‘s Captain spot on the cheer team, who was my sister. She was only two years older than me, so we were always in the same school for a while. I’m veering off again. We were all headed towards the Inn, based on what Eve said.

On the way to the Inn, I noticed that Flowerbud Village was more than meets the eye. It was actually quite green, since Summer was on its way. Everywhere you walked there were little furry creatures prancing through the bushes. I was occupied by the scenery to notice Eve had stopped. Due to my lack of attention, I bumped into her and fell to the floor.

“Goodness Mindy, why are you so clumsy. Maybe we should find a four-leaf clover to bring you good luck, huh?”, Eve said while helping me up.

After getting up, I looked at Eve and she was searching for something.

“What are you looking for Eve?”

“ I think I left my schedule at your house. Would you mind going and getting for me Mindy? Without it, I don’t have any idea what we have to do. Besides, Rocky looks like he wants to go home.”

I nodded and called Rocky. He came to me and we both started walking towards my house. Over the little time I was here, I managed to make enough money to get a two story house already. Impressive huh? Ok I‘m joking. I was able to do that with the money my mom gave me for that reason. So I guess you can’t exactly call me a farmer, at least not yet.

Well I guess you can say its a rewite. But I think im going to edit it a little more.

Chapter 2: What Happens on a Walk

As Rocky and I were walking to my house, I was enjoying the scenery. Rocky was enjoying eating the random berries he would find. By the fifth one, his mouth was outlined with the purple colors the berries were. I giggled at his appearance, and he started wagging his tail before jumping on my leg. I bent down to pick him up and he was happy after that.

We continued to walk. And before we knew it, I was standing in front of my house. I walked inside and set Rocky on the floor. I sighed when I noticed the mess that had built up in the last two weeks I hadn’t cleaned. This was going to be a hard job to find that stupid little planner Eve so desperately needed.

After about an hour, it was 6:58. The sun had down about an hour ago, and in the process of looking for Eve’s planner, I managed to clean up my house. After coming to the conclusion that Eve might have left it somewhere else, I walked over and collapsed on my bed with my face in the pillow. Then the phone rang, and I fell out of the bed due to the sudden noise. I rushed to answer it.

“Hello? Mindy?”

“Yea, listen, I can’t find the planner.”

“Here is the funny thing, I found it in my coat pocket. So you can just head on back to the Inn. We are waiting. So hurry!”

After hanging up the phone, I started walking towards the door. Then I remembered to check Rocky’s food and water bowls. They were both filled up. So I checked to make sure he was in the house. Sure enough, he was in the little brown and blue checkered bed my mom had sent when she learned I had a dog.

I walked out and locked the door. I turned around and was amazed to see a small foal running in my direction, and a girl running behind it. That girl was Ellen. My curiosity got the better of me and then I was hit by the rampaging horse. I figured I would have been knocked unconscious, but miraculously, I didn’t. The horse had slowed down after its run in with me, and Ellen rushed over.

“Oh my gosh! Mindy, are you ok? I am so sorry. She got out of the barn and made me chase her all the way here”, Ellen said.

I shook my head and then the world stopped spinning once again. I rose up from the floor brushing off the dirt from my clothes. I looked over my shoulder to the foal rushing towards me again. I covered my head this time, trying to avoid being knocked over again. Then I felt something wet against my cheek. I opened my eyes to see that the foal was actually seeing if I was ok. Casually, I pet it.

“Wow, she really likes you huh? Come to think of it, would you like a horse Mindy? Dad wouldn’t mind, and she seems really friendly towards you. I would never be able to control her. What do you say?”

“Me? Really? Well, I would love to! I’ve never had a horse. But I don’t have a barn.”

“Its ok. You can keep her in ours until you can get one built. So deal?”

“Deal.”

After conversing with Ellen, I was on my way back to the Inn. I was enjoying the scenery. The environment of this place was one thing I wouldn’t want to leave. Everywhere you went there were happy animals and happy people. Hmm, back home, you bumped into someone and they screamed in your face. Anyways, I was halfway to the Inn when he came along.

He, was Dan. Eve’s boyfriend. Ever since my arrival, he had constantly been trying to talk to me. Then Eve told me that he’s like that with all pretty girls, and she was surprised she was still with him. I found that whole concept to be rather, creepy. But his attention was focused on me for the time being. So I started walking a little faster. When he started to walk at my pace, I was glad Nina interrupted him. She looked towards me and gave me a little assuring look. I understood what she meant and took the opportunity.

After running a little, I looked back and noticed I had completely lost view of both Nina and Dan. I gave a sigh of relief. My watch happened to have a timer and I noticed it was already 6:45. I had only 15 minutes to get back to the Inn! So sure enough, I ran, and ran, and ran.

Running really takes a lot out of you. But I reached the Inn with 5 minutes to spare. I expected to be late, but I hated to be early. Nevertheless, I walked in casually.

The lights were off, and no one was inside. Where is everyone?
