I'm not really the kind of person who takes advice from sites and such. My writing style comes from my years of reading books that should be far above my comprehension, and it's slowly improving. Try looking at other peoples stories, ask them how they write it, try to get some advice from them. Most usually won't say no to giving a novice advice, since the knowledge of writing is supposed to be passed down.

The only thing I can say is to publish whatever. If you take a gander at my early fanfics, they suck more that anyone I have ever met. But after years of writing fics, I got better. I even rewrite older fics in Special Editions just to get that extra practice. You may also want to partner up with another writer, and judge/correct/ and learn from one another. (Of course, you'll need to learn how to tolerate harsh criticism, and always try your best.)
I have faith that anyone can be a great writer. However, everyone always writes differently. Even if you are not as good as the person next to you, knowing that you have told a story to the best of your ability is always a satisfactory reward. So just break out your paper and pencil, and jot some ideas down!

speaking of which, a good idea is to find someone who's writing style compliments yours, and try to write joint stories with that person. Like me and Jux do. His chapters flow much better than mine, and thus they end up longer. but I tend to put a lot of detail into mine, while keeping it interesting at the same time, which makes for a short and interesting read.
So if you're afraid of going solo, ask a friend to write with you.
(OOC: Jux, please check your PM box for that other joint fanfic we discussed or reply if you've read it.)
