Inspired by Juxapose's topic, what are the saddest moments in video games for you? Here are mine. None reach a Jurassic Bark level of sadness, but they're still sad enough. Some major spoilers, but everything is in tags. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World: So the game may not be the greatest, but there are still a couple sad moments. The first is the bad ending, which is, oddly enough, the hardest to get. At the end of the game there's a fight where you're up against Lloyd and Marta. If you defeat both of them then Emil will get up and see Marta on the ground. He thinks he has killed her, so he kills himself. Marta wakes up, realizes what happened, and shouts, "EMIIIIL!" She then goes on to write the most depressing letter ever. And if that's not bad enough, there's another scene in the second playthrough where (Tales of Symphonia spoilers as well): Yuan is talking to Kratos. Kratos says that Derris-Kharlan is soon going to be out of the communication range, so it's his last communication ever. A direct quote:
"From this point onward, we'll be swallowed up in the vast darkness of space."
Way to be a downer, Kratos. And he doesn't want anyone to tell Lloyd. Tales of Symphonia: Raine in Exire. Video behind the spoiler tag. Persona 4: Nanako. Just...Nanako. Tales of the Abyss: So many depressing moments in this game. Especially the scene where Ion dies and the other one where Luke agrees to sacrifice himself to get rid of the miasma. Oh, and then there's the ending. One of the sidequests suggests that it's Asch who came back at the end, though Namco's answer is that it can be whoever you want it to be. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor: If you ever play SMT: DS don't get too attached to the characters. Keisuke, Mari, Gin, and Haru can die for sure. That's all I can think of for now. So what are yours? Seymour...T_T

BUT That all gets fixed, and even the one that you said also. So it's all good.

I just remembered Hotel Dusk, which is easily one of the most depressing games I've played. Dunning's story is the saddest in the game. Even worse is if you get one gameover that stops you from getting the best ending.

Final Fantasy IVWhen Palom and Porom turned to stone...saaad. Then you could not unstone them. I have heard, although not having finished the game myself to confirm it, that they somehow manage to revive them at the end. ^ That was very sad. Another one from Tales of Vesperia, which was a combination of sadness and guilt: So you fight Yeager, find out he has a blastia for a heart (which means he was one of Alexei's pawns since Alexei pretty much controls his life), and kill him. In other words, he really wasn't that bad of a guy because he had no choice in what he did, so that was sad enough.
Then in a cutscene you find out he donated to an orphanage. My reaction was a combination of, "Wait, what?" and, "Great. Now I feel like a jerk."

You get everyone back before the final boss fight. Which I STILL have not beaten, it's the hardest boss fight ever. :/ Final Fantasy IVIt was sad when the martial arts guy died. (I forgot his name. Kingdom Hearts II: When Roxas is more or less forced to join back inside of Sora, then gets emotional at certain occations, such as saying goodbye to the twlight gang and seeing Axel die. I was going to put something like that, but I didn't really think they were sad. Emotional was the word I should have used. Kingdom Hearts IIWhen Sora is reunited with Riku. That part makes my stomach get butterflies for some reason.

Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core Seeing Zack die at the end. I know already what his fate was, but it doesn't make it any less sad, especially when you're forced to watch it over and over again Then there was Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams Soki going and sacrificing himself to keep the last boss contained. Then the girl he likes gives up hope of reuniting with him and ends up marrying someone else. It pissed me off and made me greatly saddened at the same time

I just want to say that everything about ToS: DotNW is depressing. Well, the major plot points at least.
[spoilers]Emil not actually being Emil, Presea's personality being more cheerful before the whole exsphere thing, Aster's death, Brute going insane from the core...
Edit:
[spoilers]Now Lloyd is talking about how Mithos was his friend and was a good guy. Oh, and Emil is seeing the world one last time.
And now there's the scene with Kratos.
Before that was Genis talking about how he's going to outlive everyone and be lonely and Presea talking about how she's uncomfortable with herself.
Ugh. Stop making me depressed, game.

I found the ending of Terranigma to be quite depressing, sad, and deep in the same time. It didn't make me cry, but knowing what happened lays deep in my mind, and changed the way I see things a bit.
Final Fantasy X also had a pretty sad ending, but it was pretty much fixed in Final Fantasy X-2.
