I've been wondering something: How much realism do you put or like in Harvest Moon fanfics? I've seen some people complain about writers using the in-game calendar (like Winter 24) instead of the Gregorian calendar.
What do you think? Do you have a preference or are you fine with either one as long as you're enjoying the story?

I use as much realism as I feel like for each story. A story is a story regardless if you make is as real or as science fiction as possible. Besides, it is quite difficult to make a realistic story when the Harvest Goddess, Witch Princess, mermaids, and other mystical creatures are involved in the story.

I don't like too much realism in Harvest Moon. As Juxapose said, it's a world populated by all sorts of magical creatures. In fact, I think the Harvest Moon world is not "our" world at all. It is similar, but the HM world has its own unique culture, fashions and technology.
I don't find too much realism jarring, exactly. It's more of a fridge logic thing. Like if in the story Popuri is listening to...I dunno, the Jonas Brothers on her iPod, it won't really bother me, but afterwords, I might think "wait...do they even have iPods in HM? I mean Jack still has a record player in FoMT."
...I hope I understood your topic correctly. ._.
