The cat knocked Friends of Mineral Town off the dresser and into her water dish. I have no idea how long the game was in the water. I dried it off and put in rice, like you do for cell phones. I don't know if that can even work for a game. T_T
Is there any hope for my game?

Absolutely. I've seen a GBA cartridge go through a clothes washer and still be playable, even now. Nintendo builds their hardware to last.

Woo-hoo!
it's been in the rice for about a day now. How long do you think I should leave it there?

Pull it out, shake it off, and try it out. You may be surprised.

It works! I didn't play for long, just a minute or so, but it seemed okay and the files were intact! #bounce#

With that, this thread is now closed.

The cats seem to have it in for my games. Earlier today they knocked my DS off the desk and onto the floor and then spilled their water dish on it. (Or the other way around, I really don't know.) Either way my DS and the game in it (IoH) both got wet. It's not like they were in the water, just sitting on the carpet, so... But the DS won't turn on. It's in rice now. I was planning on buying a 3DS eventually anyway, but I wanted to keep the old DS to play GBA games.

Ouch. Might I recommend keeping your handheld games and systems somewhere else? Maybe in a plastic tub or a locked safe?

Just keep it in the rice. It may work yet.
Not long after I got my first DS (around the same time I joined here, actually), it fell in a river. Or rather, I fell in a river. The DS was in a holster on my belt, and I stupidly didn't leave it in the van when a group that I was traveling with decided to explore a river near Elko. My foot slipped on a rock as I was crossing it, and I fell it. It was only a couple feet deep, but that was enough. I immediately realized that my DS was now underwater, and got out as fast as I could.
The holster kept it from getting too wet, but it still didn't power up when I first tried it. Later, it started working again, but the speakers were out. Eventually, the speakers started working too.
I think that they just need a little time to dry out. A DS has more nooks and crannies for water to collect in than a GBA cart, it may take longer.

Someone elsewhere suggested taking it apart. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I had my little brother do it and it works fine. ^^
I started a new file on ToTT to celebrate!

This happened to me with a laptop. Taking it apart can work. Hopefully it stays working, good luck!

Water's relatively harmless to electronics. It'll short things out if you've got a live current running through the system, but there's usually no lasting damage if everything's turned off and unplugged.
Milk, on the other hand, can be nasty. I lost an NES to a milk spill down the cartridge slot once, and there's plenty of other liquids that are just as bad, if not worse.

Actually what I spilled on my laptop. It worked for about a month, then the motherboard bit the dust.
