IIRC, this has already happened before....and Nintendo turned him flat down. Nintendo doesn't have any interest in selling. It's been a while since I've heard the story though.....I'm thinking it was back in '02 or something? It is possible you're hearing old news or is Bill Gates actually taking another shot at Nintendo?

The gaming community is up in arms over comments made by Bill Gates during a cocktail reception he attended. When interviewed by members of the press, Gates made a particular comment to a group of reporters; "If Hiroshi Yamauchi calls, he'll get me on the line right away," . But judging from the context the statement was made as an offhanded remark, and was not actually a indication that Microsoft is actively seeking to buy Nintendo.

Apparently Bill's remarks didn't get a laugh out of Nintendo. One company spokesman said; "We're going to make great game hardware and software for a long time to come. Nintendo's in it to win."
