Ch. 1-Phones
When the phone rang, Ann ran to it. She loved the phone! She picked it up.
“Finally! Diamond eyes got cell phone!” Someone cried on the phone. The girl hung up, and Ann set it down. She was good at figuring voices; she just needed a description of the person or their voice. This one was like water pouring into glass. She had figured it once.
Tim was looking over papers in the clinic. Stupid disese that hurt Ellen! The phone rang. He picked up the phone. “Finally! Diamond eyes got cell phone!” Someone cried again on the phone.
Suddenly the door slammed open. “Give me the phone!” Ann demanded. She snatched it out of his hands. “Vidia Carey?”
It was. Ann and Vidia had been pen pals in all through middle school, when Vidia’s assignment had been to make a pp. They stayed together forever, writing letters when they weren’t on the phone with someone else.
They had never called each other.
Now they found each other that was all they did.
“I am getting tired of this.” Karen said, looking through slit eyes at the phone. “Yeah-that’s all she does, talk to Vidia.” Popuri said angrily. “Guys, I think we’re acting jealous.” Mary sighed.
“Yes.” Elli said. “To say sorry lets invite her here!” “We don’t even know her.” Karen giggled. “My point!” Elli said.
Suddenly up at the phone Ann invited Vidia to come.
Vidia agreed. She was coming in a week.

Ch. 2-Vidia
Excited, Vidia stood at the front of the boat, watching the oncoming shore. This place looked beautiful, and this was just their beach! Someone waved to her on shore, and more people were coming to join. She waved back. When Vidia came off the boat, a boy immediately came up and started chatting. “I’m Kai.” He said.
“Hello.” Vidia said. “Do you know a girl named Ann?” “Right over there.” Kai pointed. When Vidia turned to Ann, Ann understood why Vidia's nickname was Diamond Eyes. Her eyes sparkled and gleamed and looked so much like gems. Men brought Vidia’s bags and started up the boat. Vidia stood staring at Ann, Vidia's black hair whipping in the breeze.
“Hi!” Someone pushed through the group. “Name’s Cliff.” He smiled at Vidia. “Hi.” Vidia smiled back. “Flirter.” Kai elbowed Cliff in the ribs. They both kept smiling.
“Well, do you have a place to stay here?” Vidia said, trying to pick up all her bags, but they fell. “Yeah- the inn.” Cliff said, he and Kai each taking one of her bags. “Ok.” Vidia smiled. Karen, Popuri, Mary, and Elli pushed their way to Vidia. “I’m-” They all shouted their names at the same time. Vidia said “Hello” to each of them, and Karen took her last bag. They started walking her to the inn. Ann watched them go, enchanted by those eyes, and stunned by Vidia’s arrival.

Ch.3-Friends and Enemies
The next morning when Vidia woke up, she came downstairs to be greeted.
“Hey, how’s my girl?” Cliff said, winking at her. Kai did the same.
“Hi Vidia! Come sit with us!” Karen, Mary, and Popuri cried and beckoned to her. Elli joined.
“Hello!” Everyone else said.
Vidia felt so welcome. Karen grabbed Vidia’s wrist and bought them something to eat. After Karen showed her around town. Popuri showed her everywhere else. And all four of the girls told the scoop on the people.
“I haven’t met half of them.” Vidia giggled. “Well, just Rick and Tim really, everyone else is boring.” Mary said. “Speaking of Rick, here he comes.” Karen said, waving her hand in the air. “Why hello.” Vidia yelled. “Hi sweeties.” Rick called. They got up. Ann ran over and grabbed Vidia’s wrist. Ann tugged. “Hi Ann.” Vidia said. “Let’s talk.” “Ok.” Vidia said, puzzled. As the other girls walked ahead, the two talked.
“When I saw you, you acted like I wasn’t what you expected.” Ann said.
“I didn’t, so what?” Vidia’s face hardened.
“Also, the other girls are paying more attention to you-”
“They’re just trying to make me feel welcome!”
“Well they’re doing it lousy!”
“No! Maybe it’s just you!”
“You know, I hate you!” Ann screamed. “I do too!” Vidia screamed back. “Who really cares?” Ann yelled. Vidia shut up. "I do." She said, and turned around and joined her friends. Ann glared after Vidia.

Yeah...Real twist...And you don't actually see the part that made them mad...You see the ending, so you don't know what's going on....
