True Spirit Chapter 1- A Day to Remember 11 year old Ann bounced happily around the field near Mother's Peak. A bit old for what she's doing, but this is Mineral Village, and the only other girls are homebodies. Ann's mother tutored her, like most of the other girls. Anyway, back to the story. Ann plucked a yellow daisy from it's stem and smelled it. It smelled sweet. She stuffed it into her back pocket carelessly and continued running. The hyper child continued running until she ran into a boy a bit taller than her. He was wearing an oversized blue cap. A lock of brown hair peeked out from under it. His eyes were a deep, dark, brown. He was dressed in a blue shirt, jeans, and sneakers. His face was a little bit sweaty, and he looked tired. "Oh, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" Ann asked frantically. The boy looked dazed. "Yeah, I'm fine." he said. "What's your name?" Ann scratched her head. "I'm Ann, daughter of Doug, he runs the Inn back in the village. And you are?" Ann tilted her head to the side, letting her braided hair fall to her shoulders. "My name is Jack. I come from a large town across the ocean. I sailed here to visit my grandfather. He needs company every once and while." Ann nodded, but still, her head was bursting with questions. "How old are you?" Ann questioned him. "I'm twelve years old, you?" Ann's face fell. "Oh." Ann frowned. Jack looked at her confused. "I'm only eleven. I guess we can't be friends. I bet you have cooler friends than me who would think that I'm a baby." Jack shook his head. "No!" Jack's face softened. "Actually, I have no friends." Jack frowned. "But thanks for talking to me. No one else does." He turned around. Guilt trip. He's good, Ann thought. "Wait!" she called. Jack grinned and spun around. "That worked." he murmured to himself. Jack walked over to a laughing Ann. A confused look crossed his face. "What?" Jack asked, still confused. "You're good at making guilt trips!" Ann gasped, wiping a tear from her eye. Jack was still confused. "But why is it so funny?" Jack asked her. "I do it all the time to my friend Elli! You should see the look on her face!" Ann laughed, clutching her stomach. She wiped her face with the back of her hand. She coughed. Jack suddenly understood. A smile spread across his face. "So, do you plan on living here?" Ann asked curiously, to this friendly boy. Jack's smile dropped. "Well, um..... you see," Jack stuttered. Ann looked at him. "See what?"Ann asked. "I'm only visiting. I will probably be back soon." Ann's face turned sad. "But, I-I though- I thought," Ann said with difficulty. " You are a great person and we have the same intrests, but, I live in the city, with my parents." Ann sniffled. "Well, when do you leave?" she choked out. Jack looked at his small silver wristhingych. "I leave at 4:30. Right now it is 3:41. We still have time to go explore." Ann wiped a tear from her face. "Okay, I know all the best places!" exclaimed Ann, her face brightening, finally. She stood up and grabbed Jack by the wrist and dragged him up to Mother's Peak. They stared down the mountain, and saw other villages, alive with people. "Wow." Jack murmured. He picked up a flower and blew it off the mountain. It flew towards a small valley. His eyes widened. "Wait, that is just a few miles from my house. My aunt Tanya lives down there!" Ann's face lit up. "That means I can come see you!" Jack grinned at Ann. " Let's go now!" squealed Ann. "Actually, my ferry leaves in about 15 minutes." Ann looked confused. "Why do you need a ferry?" Jack knew that question was coming. "I din't say that the miles were on land," Jack grinned. Ann crossed her arms. "And we have to go now! My ferry is leaving in 13 minutes!" Jack pulled Ann to her feet and dragged her through town, all the way to the dock. The ferry was going to leave in 4 minutes. Ann took Jack by surprise and hugged him. "I'll miss you," Ann said. "I'll miss you too." Jack pulled back from the embrace and pulled a small basket from on top one of his suitcases. Inside was a small black puppy. "I was saving it for you." Ann reached forward and picked up the velvet soft puppy. It licked her face, and then fell asleep. By then Jack was on the ferry. "Promise to come back?" she called. " I promise!" shouted Jack.
Chapter 2--- Reunited at Last 5 years later...... (Jack is 17, Ann is 16) Jack stood on a small boat. Back at last. Jack thought. He smiled and stepped off the boat and onto the dock. Everything was the same as his last visit. Jack scanned the beach for Ann. He spotted her standing in a blue tee-shirt and jeans. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail. She smiled and ran at Jack and caught him in a big hug. "Guess what?" Jack asked Ann excitedly. Ann took a step back. "What?" Ann asked. Jack smiled. "I am taking over my grandfather's farm." "So?" Ann said. "I am here to stay!" Jack exclaimed. Ann hugged him again. She ran into town. "Jack!" called a voice. The voice was May's, now 9 years old. May hugged Jack. "We all knew you would come back! Even Stu did! Right Stu?" Stu was also 9. Stu came running over to Jack. "He is back! Yay!" Stu hugged him. Then May and Stu darted off the road, shouting "Jack is back to stay!" People came out of their houses and saw Jack. Ann leaned over to Jack. "You're abut to become very popular," she whispered, and ran away. People were piling on top of Jack. Mayor, Mary, Basil, dogs, Doug, Karen, Doctor, Cliff, Gray, Kai, and even Elli. Everyone was hugging him and saying things like "You're back!" and "I knew you'd come back for us!" This was all very kind of them, but he had other things to do. "This is all very nice, but I really must be going." Everyone slid away and back into their homes. "That was easy." Jack said to Ann, who had attempted to sneak up on him. "Come on, let's go see the farm," Jack said. "Okay!" said Ann. She followed him through town to Tree Hollow Farm, which was extremely cluttered. There were weeds all over the field. Logs, stumps, rocks, and boulders also. There were no animals. The house was small and felt empty. It seemed like only yesterday that this farm was once bursting with life. His grandpa was always tending to his plants. He was fairly wealthy. He cared for everyone in town. Now, it was just empty. It felt cold, though it was Summer. It seemed that this farm no longer had the happy air to it. "Well, it certainly, um, changed." Jack stuttered. Ann looked astonished too. "Hey, uh, Jack? You know that puppy you gave me a couple years ago? I still have it." Jack smiled. "Good," he said. Jack paced over to the farm house. It had a small bed, a TV, a table with four seats, and a desk with a blank diary. He felt the bed with his hand. He sighed. "Grandpa....." he murmured. He sat on the bed. Ann walked over to him. "It's okay Jack. He is always with you." Ann patted him on the back. "I know, but I wish I could have seen him before he died." He buried his face in his hands. "I want my grandpa back." he said. -- End of Chapter 2--- Chapter 3--- Waiter
Jack stood before a huge field of weeds. " It'll need some work, but I can do it," he said. He laughed nervously and turned to Ann. " I was wondering, if there were any part time jobs around the Inn? I'm going to need some extra money." They both glanced at the field. Ann scratched her head. "Well, you could come with me to ask my dad," Ann suggested. Jack shrugged. "Okay," he replied. He followed Ann to the Inn. "Jack wanted to know if there any part time jobs available here, dad." Doug pulled at his mustache. "Well, it would be nice if we had a waiter for the tables. You would get payed 4000 gold a week. Okay with you?" Jack nodded. "So when do I start?" asked Jack. Doug looked at his watch. "Rush hour starts in about 20 minutes, sooooo, now. Your breaks are at 5:00. You get off at nine at night." Jack nodded. A bit late, but for 4000 gold a week, it was worth it. Ann smiled. "Now we can see each other more often!" Jack smiled weakly. They already saw each other more than 7 hours a day. Now it will be 10. Jack sighed and wandered about the Inn until crowds of people started pushing in. They had their purses and walletes waving around in the air. They were pushing and shoving each other to get to the counter. "Hey now! We have a waiter now! Go sit down and wait for him to take your order," everyone silenced and went to a table. Karen sadly walked over to a table. Jack followed. "What?" he asked. Karen wiped something from her face. " Someone robbed my house!" she wailed. "They took everything! They even took my baby sister Kyla!" Karen buried her face in her hands and sobbed. "Did you get an image of what they looked like?" Jack asked. Karen nodded. "One of them has a big nose and long blond hair, and another has brown hair and blue eyes. She is about 5'4 tall. " Karen wailed again and continued sobbing. "There there," Jack said. "We'll get your things back." Karen's face brightened. "And Kyla?" she asked hopefully. Jack nodded. "And Kyla," he assured her. "Now, you'll need to let me tell a few friends about this so they can help me, okay?" Karen sniffled. "Anything for Kyla," Karen sighed. --- End of Chapter 3--- Chapter 4-- A New Festival? Jack walked along the red brick path to Rose Square to check the Events Board. He reached the square and walked over to the Events Board. It read: Events this Season Summer 1- Dog Festival ( which had already passed) Summer 7- Chicken Festival Summer 9- Love Festival And then it went on to other festivals like Fireworks. But Jack was wondering about the Love Festival. He looked back at the sign. Love Festival Dance, give gifts, and let that special person know you care. Jack shrugged. Ann and him aren't.....in love, are we? Jack thought. He does really care about her but, in love? Maybe not. They are only best friends. He used to have a feeling that Ann liked him, but that was 2 seasons ago. All of a sudden, he saw a beautiful image of Ann flashing through his head. He shook his head. No. --- End of Chapter 4--- Sorry it was so short.
Chapter 5-- The Love Festival Jack lay in his bed, with the same image of Ann in his head. She was smiling with her hands behind her back. She was wearing her plain blue overalls and a checkered yellow shirt. Jack laughed nervously. Ann, I was wondering if you wanted to come to the love festival with me. Jack rehearsed as he made his way to the Inn. He knocked on the door, and he took in a deep breath. His hands trembled a little, and the pink flowers in his hand were starting to wilt. He winced. The door opened, and Jack saw Ann standing at the door, in her usual manner. Her eyes looked up in a way that you knew she was about to say something she had done before. "Welcome to Doug's Place, the best Inn you could stay at in all of the world. Please try the food and-" Ann caught sight of Jack. "Oh! Hi Jack! What is it?" she asked as she glanced at his nervous face. Jack took a deep breath. "Ann, I was wondering if you wanted to come to the Love Festival with me," Jack said, managing to keep his voice steady and casual. He held out the flowers. "These are for you. I hope you like them," his voice cracking unnoticeably. Ann stared at him. "Calm down! I'll go with you!" Ann said, dabbing sweat from his face. Jack let out his breath. "Now let me go get ready for tonight!" Ann said, giddy from this offer. Jack smiled and ran back home to get himself ready. At the festival..... Jack leaned against a brick wall. He was wearing a black tuxedo, a pink rose tucked in his front pocket. He was wearing a black cap and dress shoes. His hair was neatly combed, and his face clean. He saw Ann enter the square. Her cherry red hair was flowing down to her waist, her face was cleaned. She was wearing a deep blue dress and heels. She saw Jack and walked over to him. "Hello," said Jack, taking a bow. Ann giggled and curtsied. "How are you d-" Ann started, when a loud voice came from Mayor Thomas. "The festival is about to begin! Everyone, find your partners! It's time to have fun!" He flipped on some pop music from across the sea. It was playing "Beautiful Soul", by Jesse McCartney (sorry for not jesse lovers, but first song that popped into my head. Mayor Thomas starting dancing hard. Everyone stared at him, with wide eyes. Thomas blushed and stopped dancing. They laughed and started dancing. Jack and Ann danced until it was 10:00 P.M. They were fairly sweaty, but laughing. They stopped, as they noticed people leaving.. "Well, I guess we have to go now," said Ann. Jack laughed. "Nonsense!" he exclaimed. Ann smiled and started dancing again. Minutes later.... Jack and Ann sat under an umbrella at the beach, watching the waves crash. Ann fell asleep, her head on Jack's shoulder. Jack smiled, and fell asleep also. ------End of Chapter 5---
Chapter 6--- A Whole New Life-- Jack and Ann have gotten married and had 2 kids, Lea and Shawn. Ann's dad also married Lillia,( Zack was angry, but he got over it,) and they just had a baby named Karla. Doug is happy to have another baby girl. Karla has a reddish colored hair and blue eyes. Ann is glad to have a few new siblings. New Family Tree-- Jack+ Ann Doug+ Lillia Popuri+Kai So now Jack and Ann are related to people in the city. 16 years later...... Jack is 36, Ann is 35, Lea is 20, Shawn is 21, and Karla is 20. The story is now pretty much focused on them. ---- Lea stood in the yard in a blue plaid dress, picking pineapples from the garden. She dropped them in the shipping box and walked into her home where her parents were sitting quietly at the chairs around the table. Shawn was out around town. Her dad spoke. "Lea, we have something to tell you." Lea put her bag down on the floor and wandered over to the bed and flopped down on it. "Yeah?" Lea played with a bit of her hait. "Lea! This is important!" Her mom said angrily. Lea turned her head to them. "Well, as you know, we are getting older, and we can't care for the farm anymore." Lea nodded, taking in the information. "And that means we can't make the payments." Her mom and dad looked troubled. "We have to leave. You can't come with us. We don't have enough money. Shawn has to take over the farm. You are to move into town and live in Lillia's old house." Lea nodded again. "And?" " We have to leave today."
Chapter 7- All on her own Lea watched sadly as her parents sailed away on a small boat. Her brother Shawn stood beside her, not as sad. Lea waved her hand, and turned away and headed to he new home. It was a rather large home. 2 floors, and comfy furniture. It was soothingly warm and cozy. It had the happiness of Popuri in it, and the stubborness of Rick, and the caring of Lillia. Lea felt she was surrounded by her friends, comforting her. She dragged her suitcase up the stairs to the bedroom. The beds were neatly made. Lea decided to make the decorated pink bed hers. It was good enough already, so she didn't have to change it. There were little pink teddy-bears all over it. Lea arrange them in a way she liked them. So this is home..... Fin.
