Chapter One: Road to Mineral Town; Part Two: Grandpa's Death
Tuesday, Spring 2nd
Dear Diary:
Today was an awful day for me, but I'll tell you how it all began. It all began when we woke up like any ordinary day in our little appartment. Since mom died, I always woke up early and made breakfast, so that these hungry men wouldn't starve because one time I woke up sick and kept sleeping, then I woke up scared because they were fighting on why wasn't their breakfast on the table. Then they realized that I was sick, and I had fever, but enough about that. I finished making breakfast, and made myself some coffee. I wrote a note to our dad saying that we went to the ferry, then I woke up Jack, so that we can go already. He put his breakfast in a plastic bowl and we grabbed our bags, and headed off.
We got to the ferry and handed our tickets and got to the ferry. While we were in the ferry, there was a boy who looked exactly like Gray, he did the exact same thing that Gray did, and I started to giggle and came up to him. ''Do I know you, because you did the exact same thing ten years ago.'' I said. He started to blush madly and I started laughing. ''Gray is that you?'' I asked. ''How do you know my name?'' he asked looking shocked. ''Do you remember the little girl who you always looked with inspiration, and when she looked at you, you would turn your head and blush?'' I said. ''Yeah?'' he said, looking embarrassed. ''Well, that's me.'' I said. ''Amy, is that you?!'' he said. ''You are correct.'' I said.
''Wow, look how you've grown!'' he said. ''Same here.'' a voice said. When Gray looked to see who it was, he was in shock. ''J-Jack?! Is that really you?'' he said. ''Who else would it be?'' Jack said. While we were greeting ourselves again, we had a little conversation. ''So, what are you two doing here?'' Gray said. '' We're going to visit grandpa, and help him with the farm, because he's sick.'' I said. ''What?! He's sick, I'm really sorry.'' Gray said, looking worried. ''It's okay, besides, were glad that he's still alive.'' Jack said. ''But what if something happens to him?'' Gray said. ''Don't be so negative, he'll be alright.'' I said. When we kept talking, the ferry came to a stop. ''We're here.'' I said. When we got our bags, and got off the ferry we saw lots of people. Then we saw like a big group of girls walking up to us. '' WELCOME TO MINERAL TOWN!!!" they said in a unison. ''My name's Ann, nice to meet you.'' She said. ''Ann? Is that you?'' I said. ''Amy? Is it really you?'' Ann said.
When we saw each other, we hugged and screamed. ''Ann, do you know this girl?'' one of the girls said. ''Of course I know her, she and her brother first came here ten years ago.'' Ann said. ''Oh. Hi, I'm Karen and these are Elli, Popuri, and Mary. It's really nice to meet you.'' Karen said. '' Hi, nice to meet you all too. This is my twin brother, Jack.'' I said. ''Hi, Jack.'' they said in unison. It really sounded like they were courting him. Then Popuri said, ''How old are you, Amy?'' "Well, if I told you my brother's age, you wouldn't believe me.'' I said. ''Come on, say it.'' Elli said. ''I'm 19 and Jack is 20. There, you happy.'' I said. ''There must be a mistake, no twin is one year older than the other.'' Elli said. ''Well, it's true, my brother is one year older than me, and I'm his twin sister.'' I said. By hearing that, they all looked shocked, except Ann. Then they all looked at Ann. ''Ann, is this true?'' Mary said. ''Well, yeah. At first I didn't believe her, but by seeing that Jack was more mature than Amy, well, I believed it.'' Ann said.
''Well, we better get our bags to the Inn.'' Jack said. ''And I believe that I'll be sleeping with Ann like we did ten years ago.'' I said. We waved goodbye to everyone we met, and headed off to the Inn. When we entered, Jack got upstairs, and I got to Ann's room. ''Let's see if you changed your room since those ten years ago.'' I said. ''Now it's all different.'' Ann said. When she opened the door, it looked like any ordinary room. ''So, what do you think?'' Ann said. ''Hmm, well, you've matured enough. Let me guess, there're no girly things anymore.'' I said.
''Correct. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?'' Ann said. ''If you're saying that it looks like any other normal room, then yes.'' I said. ''I knew you were going to say that. No wonder you weren't surprised.'' Ann said. We were talking a lot that I forgot that I had to visit grandpa. ''What time is it?'' I asked. ''It's 12:30 PM.'' Ann said. ''Oh my goddess, I have to go!'' I said. I ran out of Ann's room, and out of the Inn. I knew that I had to meet grandpa at 10:00 AM. I ran as fast as could until I bumped into someone. ''Hey, watch were you're going!'' I said. When I looked to see who it was, it was Gray. He looked really embarrassed. ''I'm sorry, Amy. I should have looked.'' Gray said. ''Don't apologize, it was my fault, because I was running too fast.'' I said.
''Is this the second time we bump into each other?'' I said. ''I think so.'' Gray said. ''Well, I better go. I think Jack and grandpa are waiting for me.'' I said. ''Can I join you?'' Gray asked. ''Sure.'' I said. To me it was kind of like a compliment, but he was my best friend, so, how could I refuse? When we got there, I saw grandpa sitting in a rocking chair feeling the breeze of the wind. ''Grandpa. How are you?'' I said. ''Amy,how are you? I'm fine.'' grandpa said weakly. ''I'm fine, grandpa.'' I said. "Who's that boy over there? Is that Gray?'' he asked. ''Yes that is Gray.'' I said. ''Bring him here.'' grandpa said. I called him over so that grandpa could see him. ''Hi, Farmer Joe.'' Gray said. ''Hello Gray. What brings you here?'' grandpa said. ''I was just walking your grandaughter here.'' Gray said. Then Jack called him over to tell him something. ''Keep doing that, and you two will get together.'' grandpa said. By hearing that, I blushed madly that I couldn't stop. ''Amy, could you get me a glass of juice. '' grandpa said. ''Sure grandpa.'' I said.
I went in grabbed some grape juice and poured it on a glass. When I went outside, I saw that grandpa was motionless. I walked up to him and said, ''Here you go, grandpa.'' I then realized that he wasn't moving. ''Grandpa come on wake up.'' I said. When I put my hand in his chest, I realized that he was dead. I dropped the glass and fell on my knees, crying. But I was crying silently. When Jack and Gray realized that I was on my knees, they knew something was wrong. Gray came up to me to see what was wrong with me. Jack checked on grandpa's pulse, and he also realized why I was crying, and he cried too. When Gray found out why we were crying, he hugged me just to make me feel better.
The next day was the funeral, and I was depressed. Gray tried everything to console me, but nothing made me feel better. I felt as if grandpa was the only relative I had, that I was now an orphan, with no place to live. Sadly, it was making me feel worse by the second. I always thoght that nobody loved me, not even my brother. I just wish I was never born, by looking at that coffin. So tomorrow is another day, and I'm starting to feel a little better.
Love, Amy
