In HM64, Cliff had a bird named Kain (or something).
He has no bird in BTN or FoMT, yet the artwork depicts him with his bird, and wearing his bird-handler's glove!

... Well, maybe it's like a traveling hawk. Since he's not being a vagrent, the bird lives outside in the trees, waiting for his call.

Off topic- in HM64 i showed Cliff a fox(the ones you see in the mountains) and he's like: "can i give it to Cain?" i'm like No! he's my little fox! lol. so theres my story.

in hm 64, he only has his bird in some cut scenes. it totally disappears once he gets married (except at the wedding).
and have you ever noticed that cliff sometimes calls his bird cain instead of kain? it's like he can't make up his mind on how to spell it.
