ok try this:
make sure the link cable is firmly secured into the GBA
make sure you have the link cable in "slot 2" of your possible 4 controller slot
go to vesta's farm path thingy in AWL and the goddess pond in FoMT
in FoMT there is a glitch. the goddess asks if you want to stop connecting, you're supposed to say yes. make sure you do.
the link only lasts for a few seconds then it's done.

I think she tried that. In fact, Nic tells you about controller port 2.

You don't have to sync it. One game will wait for the other.

At least I'm not the only one having difficuties linking the GBA and the AWL versions. would having a wireless controller be part of the problem?

Yeah, I got the cottage.
It's pretty basic. Here's what's inside:
3 plants
A clock
a window that changes views of the ocean depending on time of day.
an empty nightstand
a diary
a bed
a table in the middle
It's nice, and if you have the Teleport Stone, it provides the quickest access to the ocean for fishing. Just teleport there, and youd don't even have to move, juut face left and throw your hook in. It was great for catching Pirate Treasures at night, then just going in and go to sleep.

Yeah, they never sleep there. Besides, the bed is a single bed.
