Chapter 2
"Hey Luke. Wassup?" Mark asked as he walked up to the counter of the dinner.
"Not much. Hey, Lanna. How're you?"
"Grand." She smiled. "Bring me...Buckwheat noodles, regular noodles and water."
Whoa... She can eat alot... Mark thought
"I'll have Sashimi, Noodles and water to drink."
"Have a seat it'll be ready soon."
"Thanks Luke." Mark said taking Lanna to a table.
There was a few moments of awkard silence.
"So...I heard you used to be a popstar?" Mark asked.
"Yeah..." She replied quietly.
More silence.
"So a why'd you move to the island?"
"To get away from all the people and noise."
"Were you any good at singing?"
Lanna was quiet.
"Food's ready!"
Mark glanced over at Lanna before getting up to get the food at the counter.
"Thanks Luke." He said grabbing the two bowls of noodles.
Mark placed them at the table and went back for the rest.
They ate quietly, the only sounds where the slurping of noodles, the clinking of Marks fork on his plate of sashimi and the sound of food cooking in the kitche n for the customers that were soon to come.
"You never answered my question." Mark said. "Were you good at singing?"
Lanna hesistated.
"I'm leaving." She stated scooting the chair back.
She took her dishes to the front. "Thanks." She sighed to Luke.
"Lanna-" Mark cried but it was to late, she was already out the door.
He sighed and finished his meal.
The next morning Mark awoke to a pounding on his door.
He sleepily answered it hoping it was Lanna.
"Yeah." Mark said.
"Hey." Said Charlie. "My dad told me to come tell you that we have new stuff at our store."
"That's it."
"I guess." Charlie shrugged.
"Thanks." Mark said closing the door in the little boys face.
Mark ate and did his chores and went down to the beach for fishing.
When he arrived he walked behind the big rock and casted the fishing line.
"Hey Mark." Charlie said sadly, plopping down in the sand next to him.
"What's up?" Mark asked.
Charlie sighed carving patterns in the sand with his finger. "Nothin'..."
"Is it about Eliza?" Mark questioned.
Charlie looked out at him wide-eyed. "How'd you know about that?!"
"I can just tell." Mark said smiling.
"Yeah...It's about Eliza..."
"What?"
"I really like her...Alot..."
Mark laughed quietly so Charlie wouldn't hear.
"So why don't you tell her?"
"I want to but I don't know what to say..." Charlie said blushing slightly. "Her birthday's coming up and..."
"And, what?"
"It's a secret." His face turning redder with every word.
"Come on, you can tell me."
"Charlie!" They heard someone bellow. "Lunch!"
"That's my dad I gotta go." He said getting up but before he left he turned to Mark with a serious look on his face. "You're the only one who knows I like her. Don't tell anyone, k'?"
"I promise."
After Charlie left Mark looked at the ocean and felt a tug at his line. He reeled it in, but it was hard when he finally caught it he was proud.
Mark looked at his watch.
"Whoa!" It's 4:58!? Did I like, fall asleep or something!? Oh well, I gotta ship my big fish!"
He jumped to his feet and started sprinting to the shippong ben. He saw Elliot coming out of his house to get the shipment of the day.
"Wait!" Mark called.
Elliot looked up.
"Hey." He smiled. "You got a fish or somethin'?
"Yeah." Mark answered tossing it in.
"Thanks."
"Mmm..." Mark mumbled. He would have given a proper answer but something cought his attention. He saw a man staring into the water talking to himself.
"Excu-" Mark started to say.
"I love you Lanna!" The man said spinning around. "Oh never mind...My name's Lloyd, I'm Lanna's biggest fan ever!!!"
"Great. Nice to meet you."
"Do you know where she lives?"
"Um...That way." Mark gestured towards the East side of the island.
Without even saying thank you, Lloyd took off.
(I like it better! Thanks people!!!)
