okay, so, basically, i freaking hate my job.
well, not so much my job, more like my boss and this community service girl i'm forced to work with.
anyway, i'm planning on quitting. so, i was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to quit. i mean, i've never done it before, and i feel terribly awkward. i wanna leave on good terms with my boss as well, so she won't give me a crappy recommendation or whatever if a place i'm applying at calls her.
so, has anyone else quit a job? cuz some insight on it would really help.

Simple: don't quit at all. At least I wouldn't. I don't know what your experiences have been, but I've never held any job for more than two weeks, so if I found lasting employment, I'd be willing to put up with just about anything and be grateful for the job. It's tough enough when you're young and lacking experience or skills (especially in this economy), but I'm also a big, kinda scary-looking guy, I take what I can get. The right thing to do would be to talk to your boss about whatever problem it is you have with her (or she has with you, whatever the case may be), but if you don't think that would work (I can't really say if it might or not since I don't know the specifics), try talking to your human relations/resources person or going over your boss's head. As for the coworker, try either talking to your boss about it (which may not be an option, considering you don't seem to get along) or the HR person. I wish I hadn't sold my HR book from last year (I actually took a class on how to deal with this kind of stuff), it would really have come in handy right about now!

and, well, i wasn't planning on quitting until i got a new job. i really value having one in the first place nowadays, so i wasn't gonna quit until i had a backup one.
talking with my boss isn't really much of an option; honestly, she doesn't listen to a word i say. plus, she always interrupts me when i try to talk to her. seriously, she's just really, really bad at being manager. and i don't think we have an HR person..... or maybe we do, if you could explain what that is to me.

Well, a Human Resources person basically acts as a buffer between managment and the employees. He or she is there to resolve disputes between the two (as well as between employees), and to provide the workers with whatever other help they need (accomodations for disabilities, tools needed for the job, arranging days off, etc).
You may or may not have one in the company. They're usually only found in places where a lot of people work (like at a Walmart or other big store, a factory, or office), so if you work somewhere that only employs a few people (like a restaurant or small store), there may not be one.
But yeah, if you can find someplace better to work, go for it. I just wouldn't recommend quitting if there aren't any other options.

I had problems at my last job too, i was pretty much used as a last resort for everything and they never gave me any extra hours to work whereas a person who left and then came back got them instead. I just had to put up with it until i found another job, which i got recently and started on Monday.
Like TBustah said, Human resources is your best option if your boss won't listen. If your work place has an Administration department, then HR should be located there. Though sometimes even they are lazy, which i can say from my experience. Putting up with it while looking for another job is the best way to go about it, as it is hard to find another long term job.
But if you do want to quit then writing up a notice stating that you are finishing is the way most jobs are finished. My contract said that 1 week of notice is required to quit the job, so i wrote up one simply stating that i am handing in my 1 week notice. I then handed it to human resources since the manager was not in that week.
