Well, it's a bit of a long shot, most of you are too young, but here goes:
I'm trying to remember the names of two children's shows that aired on PBS during the 80's. They may have been older than that. It's also possible that they aired on Nickelodeon. The shows I'm thinking of may have been segments in other shows, and may even have been part of the same series.
Anyway, the first show was about anthropomorhic letters. The letters of the alphabet were involved in sort of a soap opera setting. I remember one where the letter K moved in and C was pretty depressed since between K and S it was out of a job.
The other one was about a boy who went on adventures in a chalk world. It was similar to the Nickelodeon cartoon Chalkzone, but this predated it.

Oh! I just found the second one: Simon in the Land of Chalk DrawingsIt was made in the 70's and aired on Nickelodeon in the 80's. It also was on Captain Kangaroo and Romper Room. |

The alphabet one sounds like something I may have seen on Seasame Street, many moons ago.
I may have been born on the tail end of the 80's, but don't forget: a lot of that stuff was and still is shown in reruns for ages. It's possible that people here have seen it.

I checked the Muppet Wiki and none of the alphabet segments matched what I remembered. It might have The Electric Company though
