(Note: I've copied and pasted these rules from HMA's old sister board: HMA:RP. I did read them over, but it's possible I may have missed something that would only apply to that forum. If you see something that doesn't make sense, please let me know!)
The Kappa, the Witch Princess, the Goddess and other magical beings:
ONLY Admins and Mods can RP as the Goddess, Witch Princess Kappa and other Magical beings. If you are asking for a wish or something at the spring, don't RP the Goddess, wait for one of us to do it.
All other HM characters (Ann, Doc, Mayor Thomas, Takakura, Celia etc.) can be played by anyone though.
Magic is not allowed for other characters.
Communicating with Animals
No one can talk to animals, as in, have a bird cheep at you and understand what it means. However, as in real life, some more intelligent species of animals have ways of communicating with people. Birds that can learn to speak, including, but not limited to parrots and ravens are allowed. If you have a chimp and you teach it sign language, that is allowed.
If it can do it in real life, its allowed.
Not allowed: writing. (A chimp could maybe learn to type a message on a computer, since I've heard of that, but not say, or dog or a tiger.) Animals just are not that intelligent.
So, if you want your pet whatever to have some unusual form of communication, you must prove that that kind of animal can also do it in real life.
Guidelines for Roleplaying.
Since most people here seem to like the most relaxed atmosphere, I would be reluctant to impose strict rules for roleplaying. I will say, however, that members are encouraged to put effort into their posts. Sometimes the situation calls for short posts, and that's fine. Not everyone here is an experianced player, and we won't hold that against you. Wanna make short posts? Fine, but you are encouraged to put more effort into it.
You may not simply make multiple short posts one after another. Use the edit function if you must.
All roleplay should be written in third person past tense. For example, if you were writing about your character Bob sitting on the beach; "Bob sat on the beach", would be correct. "Bob sits on the beach" or "I sat on the beach" would be incorrect.
Not everyone is a role play master though, and we all have to start somewhere. New RPers are encouraged to start off and pick it up as they go, again, there are no reprecussions for failing to make every single post a piece of roleplay art.
For now, I am leaving this open for discussion. If you have any questions about the rules, or something you feel needs to be added, feel free to post here

All Characters start out staying in Doug's Inn. When you have enough Notes, you can purchase your own land and start a farm or a business, however your character must be 18+ in order to buy land. (the number of Notes needed to buy land has not been determined yet)

Suggestion-To get prices right, I recommend Ushi No Tane, since every price for pretty much everything in the game is there. I know I just used it, other people might benefit from it too.

Prices for what?

I think what SFG is saying, the prices for the shops in Mineral Town. After all Doug wouldn't be letting everyone eat for free.

I don't think we'll bother with the prices in the shops. I think it might get too nit-picky and hamper the fun. I'd rather reserve Notes for bigger things. If you guys feel differently, though, let me know

Well, not necessarily notes, I was just thinking for plot purposes, but Butters maybe right, maybe I'm just nitpicking, I just thought I'd suggest it.

No, no, I'm open to your guys suggestions. I'd considered having prices for the shops, but decided against it for the reasons stated. If you guys want things like that, speak up!

Maybe notes for the BIG type items that you mentioned is ok, and little items: such as the cost of food to eat for one meal, or for the bed to sleep in for one night (well for the non-merfolk) can be skiped.

Umm, forgive the RP noob, but do I start by posting in the plot thread, or do I start a new thread?

How many characters can one have? I'm wondering this as well. Also, I'm an RP n00b since the only RPs I've participated in were in a single thread or on an entire forum. So...if my RP character is hanging out at the beach would I make a new thread for the beach itself or would I make a new thread about how he's hanging around stalking lobsters?

Just one character for now.
For the second one, I'm not sure. I guess it doesn't matter.

i suggest that each player can choose which town they want to start in. Since most people like one storyline over the other, for example, I love Tree of Tranquility more than Sunshine Islands or Magical Melody. It would be easier for people who have played the recent versions and haven't played the older ones.
