Summer is just around the corner and I need books to read at the beach! Since I'm not actually going away, I want books that can take me someplace else. Fantasy worlds or historical settings. Modern settings with a fantasy twist are okay (like the Harry Potter series).
I'm not real big on mystery/crime novels. I'm also not looking for comics/manga suggestions right now and would prefer books that are available as soft-cover (cheaper and easier to fit in my beach bag)
Thanks!

Look for Tamora Pierce. Her work isn't quite mainstream, but it's good reading, and can be rather fun.
I could also recommend the work of my boss, Jodi Thomas. She doesn't write fantasy, but she's an expert at making you feel like you're at the place and time she's writing about.

If you like books on history, I just finished one called: Longitude by Dava Sobel.
It's about how back in the age of exploration of the world how we were able to determine the longitude of a ship at sea when thay lost sight of land. It came to a long genius name John Harrison who made a watch that would keep time better then a regular watch.

Oh I LOVE Tamora Pierce! Great fantasy author.
Try Princess Ben by Catherine Murddock, it's a wonderful little history/fantasy fairy tale.
I don't know how you feel about dragons, but it is fantasy, so I recommend The Last Dragonlord. Great piece.
