ANB: Soseki Events?

I had Soseki move in awhile back now and I have him all the way to a green heart color, but I can't trigger any of his events.

I've been walking from Village area to the River area on a daily basis just trying to trigger it, however, I've had no luck. Do you think it's because I'm dating Neil that I can't get it to work? 

* Also, I do have the fishing rod with me at all times. (I'm mostly just trying to get the first one to go since, they normally start working once the first one goes on)

You can only see green heart and higher if you are dating someone. You'd have to break up with Neil to see Soseki's (or anyone else's) events.

I know that the I have to be single to see the green heart, but I can't even get his black heart to play out. :/

I'm pretty sure you can't see any heart events at all if you're dating someone else.
