Has anyone missed the endings of the retro games? When I recall those endings, I get that sensation of joy and accomplishment. Many but not all the more modern games lack a decent ending. Especially the portable games which end pretty much after getting married or having a child. To bring back the memories of the endings of Harvest Moon, I have compiled the top five endings. (Note: I don't count the "Save the Homeland" games. Those were more like cutscenes and not true endings. Nor did they feel accomplishing since you followed a guide to see them. And you don't get a separate ending for unlocking all 9 endings.) 5. Harvest Moon: 64
A good ending that records your accomplishments, and to what degree. I remember my own ending, and I did very well. But I neither had friends, nor was I married. Other than that, I had great scores. Love the music when your father talks to you. 4. Harvest Moon: GBC3 Harvest Moon: GBC 3 had a lot of endings for a gameboy game. My favorite out of the bunch is the ending when you play as the girl and you get married. Very touching, and you automatcally save the farm in this ending. Playing as the boy, get married, and losing the farm will unlock the bad and very sad ending. 3. Magical melody
This ending was nice. I loved the instruments playing, and the revival of the goddess. A lot of people don't consider this an ending cause you are asked to collect 50 more notes. The ending for 100 notes is super lame, so I would love to see this as the "true" ending. The 100 note this is all optional in my opinion. 2. Harvest Moon: BTN
Love this ending. You are congratulated, and made an official member to Mineral town. Then the game goes as far as to tell you who that girl was from your childhood. In my game, the girl was not the girl I proposed, so I feel like I hurt that girl in the end. 1. Harvest Moon ToT/AP The endings are about the same, but I like ToT better, but only because I like ToT as a game better. When I send my child off, I cried. I literally cried. I am not joking in any way, I balled into tears as my child got on that boat and drifted out of my life. The ending is touching, emotional, and deserving of the #1 spot. So tell me forum, what is your favorite Harvest Moon ending? *Note* I have not seen any Harvest Moon: BTN for girl endings, nor will I see one until I see my own ending.

That's interesting. I always thought the little girl in BTN was whoever you married.
My favorite is probably HM:64.
I also really like ToTT:
Seeing the towns come together was really heart-warming ;u; I also really liked the little <3 when Ayame was talking to Mako.
ANB was pretty satisfying. I can't find a video of the ending though.

That's interesting. I always thought the little girl in BTN was whoever you married. It is. But the problem with my game was that I was NOT married when the ending happened. Only engaged. So the game script chooses which girl has the highest affection rate (Or in my case, which girl I have completed more cutscenes). Since Ann fits that condition, it was chosen that Ann was the girl from the past, even though I was engaged to Elli. I married Elli on Spring 2 Year 4, the day after the ending.

I miss that sense of magic the older games provided. Newer ones make it too blatant that unusual things are afoot, whereas you really had to look for some of the mystical things in HM64. Characters had depth and personality, instead of being whitewashed stereotypes made for a far shallower (and far less worthy) type of dating sim.
More than anything else, though... I miss the simple elegance. The handheld games, in particular, are guilty as hell of over-complicating the farming system, the relationships, and everything else. I don't have the time or tracking to keep up with it anymore. Just give me back HM64. Please. I'll pay whatever I have to.
