So tell me, has anyone done a Pokemon Roleplay? If not, tell me what you think of it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (What is a Pokemon Roleplay?) you might ask. Pokemon Roleplay is a very old tradition I have established that have very strict and VERY different rules of playing Pokemon games as opposed to Pokemon Nuzlocke. The rules are simple: Pick a type of trainer you wish to be. Only catch Pokemon that matches the type of trainer you decided to be. Make a goal that matches the trainer that you are. Example: Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green. I have decided to be a Bird Keeper. I am only allowed to catch Flying Type Pokemon, or any Pokemon that will eventually be Flying Type. Dual typing is OK as long as one of the types are Flying. I wish to be the best Flying type trainer. I will accomplish this by Catching the three legendary bird Pokemon Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres. I will then use these birds to beat the Elite 4. I fail this mission if I cannot catch any of the legendary birds.

This sounds interesting. I have a few questions:
If you can only catch Pokemon that are/evolve into your specialty, how do you deal with starters? If I wanted to specialize in say, electric types, does that mean I can only play Yellow?
What about HMs? Some are nessacary to beat the game. No Fire Types can learn surf or waterfall, for example.

I guess that depends on what version you play. If you are playing a Rocker (or whatever trainer that specializes in electric types), you might need to trade-in a Chinchou or Lanturn for Surf, Waterfall, Whirlpool/Dive to that version. Stunfisk can also surf.
If you are playing as a Fire Breather, then this can be a little difficult. Fire Breathers also carry Poison types along with fire types, so Nidoran F Or Poison/Water can do the trick? (If you are using Exclusively Fire, then I don't know what to do with that.)
The idea is that you are role playing as a Trainer, and you need to do whatever it takes to complete that goal. Even if it means trading in Pokemon from other versions to move ahead. Naturally, you wouldn't try anything if the game's limitations prevent you from accomplishing your goal. Roleplaying and Monotyping are two completely different things.
I heard of a funny Roleplay where a trainer wanted to play with a Dark/Fire starter (not sure what type of trainer he was going for), So he traded his natural starter for Houndour, and ran the game with that.
