Preparing for my high school reunion (I'm flying back home at the end of June, I even had enough to rent a Camaro/Challenger for a few days ) reminded me of something else that happened ten years ago: signing up here. It turns out it'll be ten years ago this Friday that I first made my account. I wanted to go ahead and write something now, in case I forget later. I found HMA totally by accident, with a Google search. I forget what it was, but the animated gif of GIR playing DDR in Herfefiny's signature popped up. I'm not sure if it was this exact one, but it was similar. Eventually, I made an intro thread. butterscotch25.proboards.com/thread/880/heyaOh man... so much has changed since then. I did end up getting MM, and I still have it, but I sold the Gamecube after getting a Wii. Yerington lost its Movie Gallery, followed shortly by the collapse of the chain (it was part of Hollywood Video) and really the industry as a whole. Video World (the store that I ironically expected to go out of business) was still holding out the last time I checked, probably because internet access in Yerington is terrible. They never did call me back about those games, and somebody told me that a collector from Lake Tahoe snatched them all up (I was just telling somebody about this). We got rid of the Beetle about a year after this post, because I needed something safer for college. Around the same time, I started another sprite comic (and actually kept up with it pretty regularly for a few years), and the RPG project fell by the wayside (speaking of the RPGMaker2000 project, that's actually where my avatar sprite came from, and I want to revisit it someday, I've been kicking this idea around for about 15 years). As for the people that responded, Butters and Border are the only two left here. I don't remember most of these names, but I do remember Herf, Venus, and Sugar (why'd your mom stop coming by anyway, Butters?). Who else was around back then... Melody and her sisters, Moko (still follow her on DA), DD, probably some others that I'm not thinking of. My Photobucket uploads from the time jogged my memory a bit more... of course, there's my old avatar and the gazillion stupid little variations I did on it. There's not much else directly related to the forums, but there is this upload of a Norm Scott cartoon that I scanned for Sugar. Of course, there's stuff in there from my life in general back then... photos from the Australia trip, Spriteshock strips, pictures of the cars that I bought to take to the slot track in Yerington, the sticker from my first trip to the polls, the earliest additions to my Super Sentai collection, my Mario Kart: DS emblems, my Super Retroport, my Cavalier... so much just within that first year or so after I joined. So much has changed, in the forum, in the world around us, and in our day-to-day lives. As for myself... I don't know if my younger self would approve of who I am today, but I do know this: I might not be where I'm supposed to be, or where I'd like to be, but I've come a lot further than some of the adults in my life said I would back then. I think I can make peace with some of the demons of my past and come home with my head held high.
