Ch 8- No...

Rick speed-walked, almost jogged to the inn; out of breath by the time he was finally there.
"She's not here" Ann said seeing Rick and the look of desperation on his face. "I think she said she was going to the clinic..." Rick groaned and was about to head to the clinic when Thorn walked in.
"Rick?" she exclaimed, suprised to see him so late.
"We need to talk" he whispered, "preferably somewhere private" Thorn seemed to hesitate, but then nodded and led him up to her room. They both took a seat at a small table in the middle of the room. As Thorn sat, he couldn't help but notice how stiff and uncomfortable she looked.
"Can I get you something?" she asked quietly, looking down at her hands.
"No, I'm fine." Rick declined. The two sat in an awkward silence for quiet a while- Thorn began tapping her fingers on the wooden table as Rick tried to put his thoughts into words. Finally, he mustered up the courage he needed so badly and began.
"Thorn..." he started off with a smile. He had thought over how he would say this to her as he was making his way to the inn. He would just tell it as is. "When I first saw you, you were...you were such a mystery. When I finally met you, I knew I liked you, but..." he pausedd and took a breath. "My like grew into love. Everything about you has always been so foggy, but once I broke up with Karen, things became clearer. Thorn..." his voice grew quiet. "I love you."
Tears streaked down Thorn's face and tripled by the minute. "Rick..." she choked back. "I can't"

Ch 9- Love gone wrong
"W-w-why?!" Rick cried as his hands began to tremble. This wasn't how things were supposed to work out. The whole vision he had...shattered.
"I just can't!" she hollered as her tears grew into sobs. She turned away so that she wouldn't have to see her best friend's sad expression. "No..." she shivered.
Rick stood up to comfort Thorn, but she drew back and screamed, "NO DADDY, PLEASE!!" She fell out of her chair and edged to a corner of the room.
"Did she..." Rick thought, confused, "Just call me daddy?"
"T-Thorn...I don't..." he didn't know what exactly to say or do. Thorn had him baffled- how did one simple statement end up like this? Obviously Thorn wanted Rick to leave her be, but Rick loved her too much to see her like this.
"Thorn..." he tried once more.
"GO!" she screamed through her silent sobs. "Just leave Rick..." She turned to the wall before curling herself up in what looked like an uncomfortable position.
"No." he whispered. "Thorn..." Rick began as he took a seat on the floor. "I can't see you like this...it hurts too much. You think after all I just said I would leave you be? No..."
A few moments passed, and Thorn's sobs began to soften. The only sound that could be heard was the tick-tock of a small clock that hung peacefully on the wall.
tick, tock, tick, tock...
The annoying tick seemed to go on for what seemed like ages, but Rick didn't mind. He had his thoughts focused on Thorn. Once she had sniffed away her last tear, the silence between them was finally broken.
"I have a wretched past Rick..." Thorn murmered, still facing the wall. "and I think you of all people, should know about it."
"Only if you're willing to open that ugly door." he whispered gently.
Thorn slowly began to turn around and finally became face to face with Rick.
