The Global Trade ...thingy... they had in Diamond and Pearl. Is that in this game too?

What were the old names? For that matter, what are the new names?

the japanese names are lance, athena, lambda, and apollo.
the english ones are proton, arianna, petrel, and archer.
proton and petrel seem like really stupid names to me. <_<
also, the male character is named ethan, and the girl is named lyra.

Well, there's obviously a reason they changed Lance's name: there's already a major character in the English version of the series with that name, who also makes an appearance in this game (or at least, the original GSC). Anydangway, I went ahead and preordered a copy of SoulSilver at Gamestop today. This is actually the first time I've ever preordered a game. I was just stopping in to get the Shiny Pichu from the download station when I saw the counter display for the preorders. I didn't get my Lugia figure, though, they were out. The guy told me they'd have one for me when I came to pick up the game.

About the whole Pokemon following you thing: I've read several times that it can be any Pokemon, but all the screenshots I've ever seen show smaller Pokemon. I'd like to know what happens when a really big Pokemon follows you. Is it to scale or what?

Well, I answered my own question last night: my Oinx is only slightly larger than my character.
I named my rival Calvin after the HM character, since I've been trying to woo him in AP; only later did I realize that Owen might have suited the rival better.
My starter is a Cyndaquil named Toasty. >.>

Yeah, I noticed that with Onix too. I traded for the one in Violet City. It looks ridiculous. But other than that, this game is nothing short of a lovingly crafted thank you letter from Nintendo to longtime fans of the series. I'm hesitant to call it "fan service", because that makes it sound cheap. The attention to detail that went into it is amazing. The thing that really surprised me was the sound details. You can actually hear the water in seas, rivers, and even in fountains. You can also hear your footsteps and the wind. The fact that running makes you more likely to attract wild pokemon and other trainers because of the noise you make provides an interesting twist. I've only made it to Goldenrod so far. My current team is a Croconaw named Steve, a Flaafy named Wooly, and a Togetic named Poachy. I also keep the in-game trade Onix named Rocky in my party, but he's more or less just along for the ride for when I need to use Rock Smash. I'll box him after I catch the Sudowoodo (not sure what I'll name him yet). Anyone who has not yet picked up the game will regret it if they don't.

I have to agree with you; this game is amazing.
In addition to everything you said, I love the new menu layout and the change to the casino. At first I was really disappointed with the slots being taken out, but now that I know how to play Voltorb Flip I am addicted. Winning coins is so much easier than with the slot machines.
Edit: Also, the Pokéwalker is the best idea ever.
